port number FROM freephoneline.ca
Hello all,
Would it be possible to port a number from freephoneline to another provider? If so, what is the process and how much is it going to cost? Is there any condition I need to fulfill before allowed to port the number over?
Thanks a lot!

this has been verified as possible (do a quick topic search to find it).zhuanyi wrote:Hello all,

Do a screen print from your account info screen (as of course you do NOT get a BILL from FPL) --- this should suffice for most providers that you are porting INTO; if it does NOT, then you will have to contact FPL to ask for some additional proof/documentation.
FPL does not charge you to PORT OUT, although your new provider MAY charge you to PORT IN.

Thanks @TheHardy, I did a search online and it seems to indicate that you will need to buy an VOIP config file first before FPL allows you to pot the number out since otherwise my account info screen does not show both my name AND my FPL number? Is that correct? Thanks for your help!

FPL-mike said otherwise ... I will do a quick forum search to verify this and post the link ...zhuanyi wrote:Thanks @TheHardy, I did a search online and it seems to indicate that you will need to buy an VOIP config file first before FPL allows you to pot the number out since otherwise my account info screen does not show both my name AND my FPL number? Porting out
http://forum.fongo.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4552#p23516
There's the specific link, as promised, from FPL-Mike, saying that you do NOT need to have purchased the unlock/config file. I would suggest to read the entire thread, there are some other useful nuggets of information there.
Question: why are you considering porting out? Just to keep that phone number? You do realize that if you port OUT, and you want to use the FPL service still, that you will have to re-signup for service again -- is that the plan?
Did you find a "cool vanity number" and now just wish it was your best-est cell # ???

Re: port number FROM freephoneline.ca
And have you noticed on their account page there is not a single web page with both your phone number and your name on the same page? I am not sure screenshots on multiple pages would work...

Just an update on this, Wind refused to port the number from FPL, so I had to get a Rogers prepaid first...

Re: port number FROM freephoneline.ca
Refused OUTRIGHT to port in from FPL, or refused to honour their promo with a port in from FPL? They CANNOT, as a CANADIAN wireless provider, REFUSE to port in a number based on who the assigning *LEC of the original number was -- it is against the law!zhuanyi wrote:Just an update on this, Wind refused to port the number from FPL, so I had to get a Rogers prepaid first...
If they have done this, please get DOCUMENTATION of that and forward it not only to FPL (Fibernetics) but also the Industry Canada and the CWTA --- it is __ILLEGAL__.
If they just refused to honour their promo, then I am sure that there is some fine print somewhere that gives them that option, we would have to fine-tooth-comb it.
Please keep us updated on this, and if you want, PM me any direct responses from Wind ... I would not mind holding their feet to the fire for their sh&*ty customer service record!

I am still trying to find out about what you said WIND was doing --- blocking incoming ports from FPL ... I still stand by this being ILLEGAL for WIND to do ... and if I were you, I would follow the links above and file a complaint.
It is important that YOU do it, as you have the information FIRST HAND for what your interaction with WIND was, and EXACTLY what they said. I have posted a general question to the CRTC regarding this and will post my information here regarding it.
