Long Pause Before Connecting

Hello ... wondering if anyone has experience a long pause before connecting on an out going call. I would make a call, wait for a while (sometimes 10 seconds or more), then I would hear the ringing. Is there a way to shorten this, without having to press the # after dialing? I currently use a Grandstream HT286. Thanks in advance.

Fairly sure that is in your dialing strings, but I could be wrong. Do you only call North American numbers, or overseas as well? North American #s are fixed length, but overseas ones are variable ... therefore using a defined dial string will not work with international calls too well ...

Thanks TheHardy ... Call mostly North America. The Grandstream HT286 does not allow for custom dialing string.

Try pressing "#" once your done dialing. If the call goes through right away good chance there's a dial string error.

Thanks for the help Red89GT. Unfortunately, the Grandstream HT286 does not allow me to have custom dialing string. The problem is at my mother's house. I have the same ATA at home and it works fine. The same setup is at my mother's house.

Does it make a difference that she is on cable internet and I'm on DSL?

One thing that will slow dialing is if STUN is active but cannot connect. This will give quite a long delay before it times out and dials anyway. Codec problems can also slow things down if the codec negotiation is problematical.

Same hardware maybe, but all the same software and hardware settings? Double check that and then go from there. Even different anti-virus and firewall software will sometimes make a difference. Could be any little hardware setting too ... Screen prints of what works at your place compared to her settings would be a place to start.

Turn STUN off and see if a. your calls still work OK and b. does the phone dial more quickly. If calls don't work (most likely but if they do good!) then try a different STUN server (eg. stun.callwithus.com or
stun.counterpath.net). If none of that improves things then you can conclude that stun is not the problem.

On my ATA, STUN has been set to off :

* Use STUN keep-alive to detect networks connectivity : NO

If I was to set STUN to on, would I input "stun.callwithus.com or stun.counterpath.net" in the field :

Proxy-Require : ________________________?

Is there a default STUN server for Freephoneline/Fongo?

Thanks again!

You need to find a working stun server. Try "stun.callwithus.com" first and then "stun.counterpath.net" it it does not help. If neither help then turn stun off.

The STUN server is entered under the Advanced Settings........
NAT Traversal: No
Yes, STUN server is: put stun server here(URI or IP:port)

I am not aware of a Fongo stun server.
