Porting a Rogers Small Business Account
Porting a Rogers Small Business Account
Hello Fongo and Dell Voice Community, is it possible to port a small business number from Rogers Canada?
And if so, what would be the necessary procedure to do so?
Currently I have a Roger's business account, not a residential account that I would like to port, thus I am hoping this will not be an issue! Though if there are any please feel free to enlighten me to them.
Thank you for your responses ahead of time!

There are some issues, let us know more about your set-up and business and we'll let you know if this is something you can accomplish.
A list of things to keep in mind.
FPL/Fongo are designed as home-phone replacement services and do not have business in mind in their business model.
As such any business who wants to even consider running on FPL (which may be against the TOS I don't have in memorized.) Needs to keep in mind:
1. Customer support is call-in only, there are no on-site technicians for Fongo/FPL
(Although some of the community members such as myself are network professionals and will help if we can.)
2. There is no priority service or business support hot-line as there are no "business" clients.
3. There is no QOS or SLA guarantee, this is a free service aimed at home-phone service used, essentially, support free, save where there is an issue specifically with FPL/Fongo's side of the service. (With VoIP there are several points of failure, and I have honestly never seen a serious outage caused by FPL, though I know there have been some growing pains at times in various parts of the network.)
4. While FPL supports 3-way calling, Follow-Me/Callforward, CID, and Voicemail out of the box that's essentially as far as the feature set goes. There are no options for multiple lines, there are no options for a managed PBX/extensions.
5. FPL/Fongo are subsidiary of Fibernetics (http://business.fibernetics.ca/voiceServices) which does offer business VoIP service and is 99.9% of the time a much better way for business of all sizes to go.

In addition Bloodsong's points, I'd just like to confirm that Dell Voice customers can port in business numbers as Dell advertises the service for both home and SMB use. This is a little different from some of our residential brands where we usually are not able to port business lines due to the terms of service of those brands.

Hi albertkun,
DV is indeed supporting small company's with this service. For the portability of your number, it would depend on the area it is in (need to make sure we have DID's in the area)
signing up for a free account and a quick call into a CSR would have you sorted it quickly and be able to provide you with the most accurate information possible.

Thank you for your reply. The area I am in is Markham, with area code 905, and I'm currently not on contract with Rogers.
After I made an account, I called in, and their response are all along the lines of 'Sorry, we do not port business numbers'.
If that is the case, is there some steps I am missing?
Or do I need to call a specific number for it?

Hi alberkun,
Can you please PM me your DV number? I will either arrange for an agent to call, or call you myself in order to start your porting process.

Anything an SMB should know about using DV as opposed to Fibernetics? Do the expand on more business-like features (such as multi-line, extensions and MOH?) Do they offer SLAs? Is there a FAQ or TOS I should be reading?

Nothing else is different at this time - just that they do allow porting business numbers and SMB usage.Bloodsong wrote:Oh that's cool,FONGO_steve wrote:In addition Bloodsong's points, I'd just like to confirm that Dell Voice customers can port in business numbers as Dell advertises the service for both home and SMB use.
