811, 311 access

Post by odaigle »

Hi,
Even though 911 services are accessible, how can one access 811 (Quebec's info santé) and 311 (ville de Montréal services) ?

Thanks.

Hi odaigle,

811 and 311 number are location centrific and can not be reached by Fongo services as there is no way for them to confirm the exact location you are calling from in order to place you with the closest contact center for those services (this has been discussed in a number of threads on the forums)

Doing a quick search will lead you to the equivalent 800 and/or local numbers for most of the agencies that you are looking for. Several of us have done the leg work on this already for various cities/areas.

3-1-1 did work in limited areas, but it seems to no longer do so .... why this would have been rolled back, I am not sure! :(

Correction to what i wrote earlier, 311 is supported in some areas, however, according to CRTC regulations, they ned to contact us in order to be added to the system as we are not allowed to go to them.

That being the case, Mike, why has VANCOUVER 3-1-1 stopped working now, when it did before? Are the 3-1-1 providers required to "re-register" annually or something?? ???? ??????

Thanks Steve. I do get what Mike explained, and yourself and I (and others) went thru this in the past, but some 3-1-1's and 2-1-1's did work, and it seems that they have all ceased to function correctly.

The fact that 2-1-1 from my Vancouver # hits back to the Fibernetics ANAC off a Toronto number is most interesting, however! :-)

Are there any other "short codes" that produce these results that you care to share with us?

Oh, and while you are looking into things, I have posted the translation #s for various 3-1-1's as well as their website references in the STICKY thread on that topic ... of course, you would need to officially verify these #'s, but at least I have pointed you and other users in the right direction for them! :-)
