You can't. We've had issues with people registering for many many numbers and forwarding them all to one number for business purposes, so we disabled this a long time ago.

hi kris,

It should be allowed to people who have paid for the configuration file. In case they are travelling, they can still get their calls
on the laptop by forwarding the home no. to at least one FPL softphone no.

Moreover they should be restricted to have one free soft phone connection with the same address details, so that you are aware
that this person has one FPL soft phone connection, which he/she is using for forwarding the line.

Your views on this will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kola

Unfortunately people will lie about their address to get more numbers.. then we have a bigger problem on our hands. It all comes down to the legalities of not messing with the 911 system.

So lets get this straight...

The goal of FreePhoneLine, as stated on your FAQ under "What’s next for your company?":
... we are able to work on expanding to eventually cover all of Canada with free phone lines! By offering some of the lowest rates in Canada paired with our high quality customer service, we are certain we can achieve this.
Well, this sounds great! My question is, how do you plan to manage covering all of Canada with phone lines and also continue to provide Call Forwarding/Follow me? If it is impossible to forward your calls to another FPL number, and if everyone in Canada is using FPL, then nobody will be able to forward their phone calls.

I can't imagine why this would be disabled if your goal is to provide fixed home phone replacements, despite the completely legitimate reasons previously listed, it seems counter-productive. If I recommend your service to my friends, and they switch to FreePhoneLine, then I will no longer be able to forward my phone calls when I am staying at my friends place due to these restrictions. This will eventually make "follow me" useless for anything but forwarding your calls to your cell phone (if the goal of your company is realized, or even slightly realized.)

Could you imagine if Bell refused to forward your calls to other Bell telephone numbers? This definitely would cause problems especially when you consider the volume of customers they currently have. Sooner or later some of these customers are going to want to forward to a number on the same provider.

ALSO -- Why is this not mentioned on the website under features? When I click on "Follow Me" for more information about the service this restriction is not listed. This is definitely something I would want to know as a potential customer to FreePhoneLine.

I'll answer all of your questions at a later time. For now, why we disable forwards from FPL to FPL is because hypothetically, I could register 40 FPL numbers from every city and point them to one number thus starting my own business...

Okay, no worries.
Sorry to bombard you with questions, lol.
It's not really that important, I was just wondering.
Trying to get as much information as I possibly can before I set up an ATA with you guys.
That way, I run into little or no surprises.
I also figure that if it crossed my mind, others may also be wondering about it and just never asked.

Alright, but wouldn't that only work if your main telephone was a FPL number? For example, if I have my own business, and already own my own telephone number, couldn't I just sign up for 40 FPL numbers and point them to my non-FPL number? What is stopping people from doing this? Maybe consider (at a later date) making a limit for how many FPL numbers can be forwarded to a certain phone number? Just a suggestion.

When I signed up, I used my regular telephone number. I also signed up my friend with your service while he was at my house, and so we used the same telephone number for activation. Later, when he got home, he just changed the number to his house phone. So couldn't I theoretically sign up for a bunch of numbers and have them forwarded to my house the same way I did when activating my friends number? As far as I can tell there is nothing stopping me from doing this.

Actually, and you can try this, we only allow an "Other Number" to be used 5 times and follow-me number once.

Are you saying that a landline can be listed as the follow-me for a single FPL account at a time? If that is the case, then one not only need to confirm that (A) the destination number is not only NOT a FPL line and (B) no other FPL user will be planning to call forward to the same number.

Not only is this not a very workable solution -- say if multiple FPL users (from one or more families/companies) are meeting at a single destination -- the restriction creates a denial of service opportunity.

I have not used this service yet .... but does the system ring the destination number whenever the number is entered as a follow-me number (to notify them)? If not, do you have a procedure in place for removing "inadvertent", errant, or "stale" call-forward setups (so that legitimate call-forwarding can take place)?

I can see FPL wanting minimize improper use of accounts but limiting a destination landline to a single FPL account is a little too limiting. (Perhaps 3 to 5 instances are better?) It might even be better off allowing FPL to FPL forwarding. At least, in that case, calling and forwarding patterns can be analyzed -- and service be cut-off or billed accordingly.

Sorry, I made a typo in my last response, I mean to put "at" before once. So you are correct in suggesting we allow only 5 instances of the same follow me number in active use on our system.

Actually, you were correct the first time. Just tried it. As soon as a destination number is used as a follow-me number on one account, it can not be used as a follow-me number by another account. A little too limiting IMO.
