Siphon for iPhone

Post by laurent »

I have just installed the free Siphon application on my iPhone 3G, and set it up top work with my FPL account.

It works really, really well. This app is great because:
- It supports DTMF (unlike Fring and Nimbuzz!)
- Supports the G729 codec
- Free

Since my iPhone is jailbroken, I can even leave Siphon in background, lock the phone, and receive calls!

Here's my settings.

Main settings screen:

From the main screen, press "Advanced settings" to setup the proxy.

From the main screen, press "Phone settings", then "Codec" (also in Phone Settings, I turned on Keypad sound, because I like it.)

That's it! Works great.

Is it possible to get this app for an iPhone that isn't jailbroken?

Unfortunately no. Siphon is only available in Cydia.

Apple has rejected this app 6 times already, for various reasons.

Siphon is not listed in the central part of the general Settings app?

Try to uninstall and reinstall it then.

Or perhaps go grab the latest build (2.3RC4) from the developer's site: http://code.google.com/p/siphon/downloads/list

I assume you've purchased your SIP configuration form FPL? Make sure you're typing the username as your full phone number (with "1"), and the password properly with capitalizations.

As for server, it's "voip.freephoneline.ca", make sure there's no typos there.

I had paid the configure for my FPL number and using Siphone for a while. It has no problem.
Recently I found that when I use it to call another FPL number it always goes to voice mail of that number directly.
Since that FPL number is my parents' number. I need to use it very often. Anyone has idea?
I tried to use my config on voice modem and on another SIP software that have no issue at all but I like Siphone very much so anyone can help me to fix this Siphone issue ot this is a known bug?
