Just came on here to make the same suggestion. This would be the key feature to have as a mobile replacement.

Agreed it would be nice if it was integrated into the app as a feature. There are separate mobile apps that take on the "texting without using SMS" function. One cross-platform example that I have used is WhatsApp Messenger.

Thanks for the suggestion. It's not really what I would be looking for though. Not having to ask people to call one number, and text another would be ideal. I know this has been bounced around a lot, but now they have made a bold move towards the mobile side of things, surely a text solution would follow.

Do you have ROUGH a time estimate? (ie: in the next 3 months, in 2012, next year) If it comes out in the next 3~6 months I'll be thrilled. Probably too early to ask for the cost though

By rough I mean non-binding approximate that can be 100% off. Just something to give an idea, as soon can be very broad. If you can say that it will probably be in 2012, at least we'll know that the "soon" isn't that far away. If you say in the next 6 months I'll be a happy man

Please roll this out ASAP. I'd love to be able to recommend DellVoice (or freephoneline.ca) to more people, but SMS functionality is key for anyone considering dropping the cell plans to bare minimum.

4 months is *NOTHING* by the measuring stick of getting things done .... check out promised bugfixes for the FPL softphone, confirmation of calling area expansion and more DID's as examples ....

Sending and receiving SMS/MMS with my DELL number would be fantastic!

This would be the nail in my cellular plan's coffin - The King is dead, long live the King!

Upgrade to 1.4 and now it had TEXT support on it, although I can't get incoming texts from my normal cell just yet (am I supposed to?). Has anyone else got an incoming text NOT from another DV app yet?

To get texts from none DV numbers, you will need to purchase the texting package via the app store.

I bought Unlimited Canadian Texting through the in-app store, and I still get "Uh Oh! The text messaging service is not currently available, or you are not currently subscribed to text messaging..."

I called Fongo support today and nobody could figure out why I can't use text despite having paid for it. They apparently opened a ticket and will "get back to me." Very disappointing, and not an encouraging introduction to the service...
