I have got a Local Canadian Phone Number by downloading the Fongo Mobile App, and I am going to use it when I travel outside Canada. I have some questions about using the Fongo Mobile in Travel.
For Text Messages:
1.While I am outside Canada, If I want to receive text messages only from Canada, which texting package I should purchase, Canada or Global?
2.Does Canada Texting Package include Unite State?
3.Dose Global Texting Package include sending/receiving text messages to/from Canada? That is, if I only purchase a Global Texting Package, will I be able to send/receive text messages to/from both Canada and outside Canada?
For Phone Call
4.While I am outside Canada, If I want to make/receive phone calls only to/from Canada, no any add-on is required to purchase. Is it correct?
Thank you in advance.
Jackie

Re: Using Fongo Mobile while Traveling
Where you actually use the app doesn't matter geographically. You could be in Canada, India, or Australia; and it will all work exactly the same (as long as you can connect to the Fongo server and not being blocked by whatever connection you are using)
1. You can always receive text messages for free, no text package is required. Apart from "short code" text messages - https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/arti ... ort-codes- which are really hit and miss.
2. No, you will need the Global one for that.
3. Yep. As mentioned in #1, receiving messages is free. The global package allows you to send to everywhere no matter where you are. If you only want to send messages to people in Canada, then you only need the Canadian Texting package even when you are outside of Canada.
4. That is correct, use it as though you were sitting in your home in Canada.
The best way is to test things now. It won't cost you anything unless you buy a package. People should be able to text your number, and you should be able to call most Canadian numbers for free. It won't act any different once you leave Canada, as long as your connection isn't blocking you, which will be very very rare if ever.

Hi Jack,
Thank you for your answers. I just want to confirm that I understand your comments correctly:
1.No add-on Text Package is required to receive "short code" text messages.
3. The Global Texting Package includes Canada. With a Global Texting Package, I can sent text messages to everywhere including Canada.
Thank you very much,
Jackie

No. A texting package is required (or one of the options listed below), and, even then, there’s no guarantee you will receive SMS short codes.Jackie66 wrote: I just want to confirm that I understand your comments correctly:

“Users who have an active Unlimited Texting package, an active Fongo Plus package or have transferred their existing number to Fongo are not blocked from receiving SMS short codes, but as mentioned previously, some short codes do not currently work with Fongo (regardless if you are subscribed).”

Re: Using Fongo Mobile while Traveling
Please don't rely on Fongo for short codes. For me they are all over the place.
Sometimes I have got codes through without a plan, other times I have had to buy a text plan because I needed to get a code that eventually came through.
Other times I have not received codes even though I had a text plan at the time.
Sometimes I get a Fongo prompt coming through saying that they received a code, but I need a text plan to be able to see it.
I will say that this issue isn't just down to Fongo. A lot of companies won't send codes to VoIP numbers so they don't even hit the Fonngo network. Other times, it's Fongo
Again, test it and see what you get before you have to rely on it too much.
