proximity sensor problem

Hi
I have been using dell voice app for android since february with my HTC wildfire s on 2.3.3 with absolutely no problem. I just bought a Samsung galaxy exhilarate on 2.3.6 and I have the following problem: whenever I take the phone away from my ear (to dial or end the call) the screen turns off and I need to press the start button two times to get the screen back again. I tried all the available settings on my phone for the sensors but still doesn't work...
Anyone got an idea what could fix that?

Have you tired pulling the battery and testing again? I will pass this info along as well seeing as it is a fairly new model of phone. Who is your carrier?

Hi
I just tried pulling the battery and it still doesn't work.
I also use Bria, grooveip and spare phone applications and they all work well with the exhilarate.
The phone was bought from AT&T and unlocked. I use it with Telus.
Thank you for your quick reply

I meant that the 3 other applications use the proximity sensor correctly on the galaxy exhilarate.

This might be a proximity sensor that's more sensitive to changes. I'll bring it up with the necessary parties. Thanks for letting us know!
It does appear as though this is an AT&T only phone, so I can't promise anything. We'll see what we can do, though

Can you explain what you mean by "AT&T only" phone?
Ever since I unlocked it I was able to use it fine with my Telus sim card ...

I mean it seems as though it is not being sold in Canada. That shouldn't be a problem, I just wanted it noted.

It also means that Fongo staff would have problems laying their hands on one to duplicate the problem and throw it on the test-bench in their development cave in K-W ... unless you plan to stop by their office ... ;)

You may get asked via PM to verify some settings, and go thru a specific list of tasks to allow them to help you troubleshoot it ... having access to a webcam to record/send/stream a feed of what error messages, screen settings etc may come in handy if you are going to take the time to troubleshoot it ...

Not sure if one of the dev team would be able to give you a call live to work thru some things with you, if it comes to that, but there are always options -- just a matter of how much time and effort each side wants to put into it ...

It could be related: with the exhilarate phone I cannot "ping" dellvoice.ca website. Either on wifi or lte or 4G network. I cannot use netok application to determine latency. I can ping google.com but not dellvoice.ca website. I can ping dellvoice with my older htc wildfire.
The application indicate that it cannot resolve server.
Maybe it is also related with the samsung exhilarate?...

I'm not sure if the apps use the same server, but you might want to also try voip.dellvoice.ca or voip.freephoneline.ca and see what you get.

Try pinging sip.fongo.com. I'm waiting back on a response in regards to this. Will let you know as soon as I know.

I have tried with the "ping tester" application and all the canadian websites can be pinged. Must be a problem specific to the NetOk application.
Sorry, the ping is a non-issue I guess.
Dellvoice works pretty well except for the proximity sensor.
I have a hard time making calls since they sometime don't connect.
As far as receiving calls, the app works perfectly.
I hope I can be of some help to work this out.

I have similar Dell Voice App proximity problem that doesn't occur with phone dialer or other SIP client and didn't occur until Android upgrade from 2.3.5 to Ice Cream Sandwich. Now when face gets close during call, screen turns off and won't turn on until after 2 pushes on power button, and continues to be sluggish in interaction for a few more seconds afterwards. Dell Voice App should have its own proximity toggle in next upgrade, but for now I'd appreciate advice to resolve the issue.

My samsung exhilarate runs on 2.3.6 so I don't know if ICS has anything to do with it.
The application also seems to work differently according to the phone you use. My "old" htc wildfire s worked flawlessly with dellvoice while my newer exhilarate, on top of the proximity sensor, doesn't work as well on voice quality.

Maybe there are notable differences between 2.3.5 and 2.3.6? What phone do you use?

I thought that 1.4 would have solved my proximity sensor but it didn't. Same problem...
But the most frustrating problem I have (well before the 1.4 update) is the delay in the connection atempt when I try to place an outgoing call. There is sometime a 10 seconds delay between the time the call arrives to the destination and the time I get connected. I don't know if there are any related posts about that topic, I will check.
Otherwise voice quality is very good. I wish I could use dellvoice for outgoing calls as well.
