Vtech phones

Post by rsoares28 »

Hello, I signed up for fongo back in august. at the time I had uniden cordless phones and all was well. I decided to upgrade my phones to this model http://www.costco.ca/VTech-DS6472-6-DEC ... 67094.html from Costco.

When I set it up it will not show caller ID. I took the phone to my neighbors house who is not with fongo and tried it and caller ID worked so it can't be the phone... I called Vtech justto see if it was anything I had to enable in the phone but they said caller ID was a network function so if you are paying for it the vetch phone should show it. I decided to plug back in my old uniden phone and ofcourse caller ID works.

I called the fongo customer support but due to the language barrier its the most frustrating thing trying to get help that I got fed up. I bought a Panasonic phone to test and it shows caller ID fine. It seems only vetch phones and fongo are incompatible.

Does anybody else have a vetch cordless phone working with fongo caller ID??? Or are there any settings I can try changing in the ATA? I would really like to get this working

Thanks

So many views and no replies. well I will update this thread as it might help someone down the road.

Fongo is looking into it. Funny thing is, we're getting "call waiting call display "(on phone, hear a beep, can see who is calling in) but no call display with the inital call. Also when i call out i do see my home phone number. So the problem is only incoming.

Dial *65...wait for dial tone...hang up!

This is assuming you have a Linksys ATA. You never mentioned what ATA you have.

Do your test...good luck!

This is starting to look like it may be related to the firmware release from Grandstream, still testing on our end

Definite Vtech phone issue, spent an hour on the phone with tech support rebooting the ata and a whole bunch of different settings and nothing worked. Caller id would never work. I gave up and bought panasonic phones and caller id works fine now

I actually got a very nice voicemail and email from Mike at Fongo. Not sure if it is the same Mike as in this forum. The instructions were provided to me to update the ATA firmware to fix Vtech caller id issue. My question is should i actually do the update. I bought new panasonic phones 2 weeks ago and the caller id works since. Knowing that the caller id works with my new phones, should i still do the firmware update. Does the new firmware fix other issues i may not know about. Any feedback? Thanks everyone

Hi Privatepilot,

With not having any issues, it becomes more a matter of if you think you want it or not. the firmware i included in the email is the latest version that has passed our testing.

Thanks Mike, much appreciated. Unless the new firmaware will fix other issues, I should probably just stick with the version that my ATA currently has. As I mentioned, the caller id works with the Panasonic phones that I bought.

My question would be for you, will the new firmware fix a random beeping sound that I occasionally hear (almost like pressing a number button on the phone when no button is actually pressed). Will the new firmware tackle those sorts of random small issues?

Over sound quality is very good, that would be the only issue I now have is the random beeps (every few minutes)

Thanks again for all your advise / assistance.

I have no idea what is causing the "beeping" that I get and it is not just via FPL/DV. It only seems to happen when certain numbers are called so I suppose it is originating from the called number and not local. Most calls that I make are beep free.

I seem to remember someone mentioning once that female's voices on some ATAs can cause the ATA to generate the DTMF tones.
I have a household of females that use the phone and none of them have said anything, but who knows.

Although extremely rare to happen (I've never personally been in a call any time in my life where it's happened) this can be true. It's known as 'talk-off'.
