Can't access DV voicemail from Fongo home phone

Post by lustucru »

I can't access DV voicemail by dialing *98. I tried also remote VM access numbers for Montreal (438-338-3002), Toronto (416-477-0355) and Vancouver (604-283-4011) and there is no answer.

The access number works when I call from my cell.

This problem started on 12/25. Rebooting the ATA didn't help.

It seems that your phone is not sending the correct DTMf tones. Go to your GS286 and check what tones are being sent. Chen the line in the web set up that looks like
in-audio via RTP (RFC2833) via SIP INFO

currently mine is set to "in audio" but it you have that setting as well then try SIP INFO and/or RTP and see if they work.

Another way you can try is from your home line, call your own phone number. This will send you to your voicemail.

Also check your online call logs to see if any weird is going on there. It might give you (or Fongo) some clues about what is what.

What's DTMP? Do you mean DTMF?

I can dial numbers starting by *70 or *67 and noticed also that I can't reach an FPL number (438-338-xxxx).

My settings were not changed since 02/2012.

I can call my DV home number from my cell or from Skype and the call shows 0:00 minutes for the numbers I can't dial even if I have been waiting longer on the line.

Jake, I called my own phone from my Fongo home line. The and is not sent to the VM and does not even ring.

The call log still shows 0:00 minutes even I waited several seconds before hanging.

Thanks.

Sorry ... typo DTMF - method for sending tones over voip.

This is sad. I can't access voicemail either. Fongo keeps having problems like this. This is ridiculous. There is no point paying any monthly fee for this poor service.

This is turrible. turrible..turrible.

DV Voicemail problem persists since 12/25 (can't dial *98 or remote access numbers regardless of the city).

Called twice tech support. They are not aware of the server issue.

The second technician recommend a "FACTORY RESET" but this didn't fix the problem.

I'm using an ATA purchased from Fongo with the Unlock Key and didn't change my settings since 02/2012.

Update as of 12/28 @ 11:04 PM. VM indicator no flashing without messgages and no bips before dialing as before .

However, I still can't reach VM by dialing *98 or remote access numbers.

Update as of 12/29 @ 1:40 PM.

Can dial *98 and VM remote access number.

However, the system does not recognize VM password or account (when calling remote access #) when accessing VM from home phone.

Account # and password OK when calling from an alternate phone (cell, Skype...).

It is probably due to the DTMF tones. Have a look through your settings and try different DTMF tones types and see it that helps.

Thanks Jake.

The problem is not related to DTMF settings.

I can call the local weather forcast and overseas pension plan services thru VoipBuster and DTMF work fine with strings including '#' and '*'.

Additional info.

I made another test calling an international number directly from Fongo line (011.33.9.xx.xx.xx.xx) and the long DTMF strings with digits and '*' were interpreted correctly with the IVR.

But DV voicemail still doesn't recognize my password. I didn't change it since 02/2012 and it is correct in the user Web interface.

In my experience different systems will hear the DTMF tones differently to others, so some systems will work and others will not.

If you are saying that when you dial *98 and the tones do not work, then my best guess would be to try different settings. But if you have tried and there is not difference - then it must be something else :)

Thanks for the recommendation.

I compared my DTMF settings with the backup taken on 02/2012 and found that the "Via RTP (RFC2833)" was unchecked in my current settings and checked in the backup. Quite surprising because I never touched this field since its update last February as recommended by Fongo technician.

I updated this box and VM is now working.

Thanks All for your help and Have a Happy New Year!

Glad it worked. I have no doubt that at some time you may have to uncheck it to make your phone work with other IVR systems.

I got so fed up switching between two different types of DTMF tones that I have two different ATAs connected to my PBX and I have set up one type on each one. This way if I find the tones do not take, I just try again with the other phone.

Anyway, Happy New Year to you also :)
