Fongo Name Transition

Post by FONGO_steve »

We are in the midst of transitioning our freephoneline name to Fongo.
During this transition, you may see both of these names. This is an exciting time because we will be bringing you new features and services. Rest assured, there will be no change in your calling or service experience.
Stay tuned for more information!

------------------------------------------

I hope there IS a change in my calling and service experience -- FOR THE BETTER! ;-) Not saying there is anything WRONG with FPL, improvement is always nice -- how does that saying go: "If you are not moving forward, you are falling behind!"...

A new softphone would be nice ... any word on that, perchance? Something that corrects the inbound CID and java-dropouts would be spectacular! :-)

Who uses CD's anymore? ...Alright I might.

TheHardy, there are many new changes besides the name coming in 2012, some more exciting than others. Currently, we are focusing on a stable and well managed transition / launch between the two products and do not have any definitive answers for what will be worked on or redone. I am sure that once we've publicly announced the change (✔) and everything is completed in that regard we will be better equip to handle your request.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Kris. I seem to have angered a fellow forum user, but I am hoping that pending changes address some of the long-standing issues -- maybe that will be the pay-off for the (seeming) inactivity on some of those issues. To be clear, not haranguing or kwetshing about support or updates, just sometimes to the end-user it presents the appearance of moving slower than sloth-speed on some things! :-)

Fancy new toys, bells & whistles, free pens, a hotdog lunch, helium balloons and the like will go a long way to solve that ... oh, I guess that might be a bit over-the-top for a launch party ...

I could have wrote "badly sampled mp3" but I'm sure there are more then a few members on the forum that would scratch their heads over it. Pretty sure everyone here still knows what a cd is.

I am seriously on the fence too, regarding the launch date ... I can only assume that there has been a mad scramble behind the scenes to try to hit the deadline, but they sure are leaving it until late in the day ....

Maybe all the buildup and hype (hey, there has been almost NONE --- just our anticipation and impatience!!!!!) will be worth it! :)

Fongo is very excited about our next generation services about to be launched. We are positive you will welcome the additional options as we look to save you even more money. We can feel our users's anticipation and our launch is coming very soon. In fact, we are only days away!

Thanks for your interest and we look forward to servicing you for years to come.

In preparation and only a hint for our dedicated following. We recommend you look at how much you spend on voice services for your smartphone in preparation to act quickly when we fully go live!

missing the launch date again?

Posted on 31 Jan .... days away .... pushes us into FEB ... looks like FonGo missed (is going to miss...) the modified launch date ... must be a WHOLE LOT of behind the scenes stuff (or regulatory crap!) being done ...

Personally I think they are doing it just to mess with your head.

After a while you will realise the FPL doesn't do too well with keeping announced dates for things like their website.
We have had a few 'overhauls' that have missed when they were supposed to be released.

The best thing to do is to just sit back and let it come when it comes. Fongo will come, but I would get too worked up if it isn't live at midnight. Like Christmas, counting down the days/hours/minutes won't make it come any quicker :D

Big announcecments, small follow thru

Post by TheHardy »

Yes, I fully concur Jake ... and I am posting more to MAKE the point, rather than from any deep-seated desire to hold my breath. The business I am in, we "under-promise and over-deliver" ... therefore we are never falling short. This does not seem to be the case at FPL/Fongo when it comes to meeting deadlines WRT this transition or the other supposed overhauls. Good lord, just trying to get an up-to-date calling list to be posted on the website (which I think we have hashed out in the various threads -- just takes someone to HTML it and stuff it on the server!!!) had been over 6-months of promises and nothing to show yet! (I will assume for the moment that it is coming in the web-re-launch/re-branding/Fongo-launch...... but that assumption may bite me in the arse!).

It would be nice to see some timely follow-thru on these things ...

Website has been updated --- we have a firm date now --- "LAUNCHING SOON".

So, in the effort of nailing jello to the wall, maybe we will see something concrete by April ....

It all seems like political-doublespeak, and I hate such vague terms. On the other hand, it is better to not LIE or make promises you can't keep, so I guess being as vague as humanly possible is in fongo's best interest.

I know that I am certainly jaded by the missed dates and failed promises so far.

Then again, I _am_ getting exactly what I paid for, but that still does not excuse the rather poor followthru.

Ok... so... I don't get it

I already have a Freephoneline number, it is great because it works with Google Voice.
In order to use Fongo/Dell, I signed up there as well. Now I have two numbers, the old one in Alberta, the new one in Vancouver.
Can I merge the two accounts? Or just transfer Freephoneline to Dell? I really don't need two numbers... I only want the Alberta one, but I do like the fact Dell offers an Android app.

Thanks :D

I have to agree that as Fongo is supposed to be the new FPL, and DellVoice is where you signup, then I would have thought that it would follow that the FPL accounts would work on DellVoice.

It looks like FPL will still be around though, otherwise I am sure they would have redirected the domain by now.

Maybe something will happen with all the existing FPL accounts, but it does seem a bit of a kick in the whatsnames that in order to be able to utilize all the new and exciting stuff we have to sign up for a new account and dump our old ones.

I didn't see your reply when I posted mine Kris.

Why is this not an automatic option somewhere? It would seem that most people would want to take advantage of what DellVoice brings.
