Fongo Follow-me Feature Updates

Post by FONGO_Announcements »

Last week, changes were implemented to the Follow Me Settings on both http://www.dellvoice.ca and http://www.freephoneline.ca, which customers see when they log in to the website with account credentials.

The new Follow Me configuration allows Simultaneous ringing to the configured numbers. This is set by the new Ring Mode field. When set to Simultaneous, incoming calls are sent to the main account number and all configured Follow Me numbers. The call connects on whichever phone is answered first.

Customers who had already configured Follow Me prior to the web change will see their Follow Me settings with a Ring Mode of Sequential. Their Follow Me action will continue to work as before, with the numbers tried in sequence.

Nice update! I know others have asked for this, and it is very nice that it was rolled out on both platforms simultaneously! I actually noticed it yesterday when configuring a new installation of DV for a co-worker!

Now then, we just need to get fwd-to-email voicemail option set up in DV! :-)

Likewise, saw this when I was setting up for my Uncle, and instantly went to set-up my simultaneous ring settings :D

Great to see this feature. I'm having a problem though. If I have me configuration set to "Sequential" and "Always Call Forward" with 1 number configured in my follow me list, it works fine, I call my DV number and it rings the call forward number. If I then set it to "Simultaneous" with the same 1 follow me number and call my DV number, my DV app will ring, but the follow me number never rings, even though it should be running simultaneously. So it doesn't seem to be working for me.

I should add that if I add a second number, it will ring the DV app and the second number, but not the 1st simultaneously. Since there is a restriction that you can only have 1 number as a follow-me number Fongo-wide, the 1st number is my wife's DV number which is set to always call forward to a number to test this. So I'm not sure if the problem is that it can't simultaneously ring a DV # that is set to always call forward or not. With the restriction in place, I'm hoping that simultaneous ring can still work for call-forward numbers so that two people who live at the same house with DV on their mobiles can have it ring at home in simultaneous mode.

It's not meant to ring the DV app and the destination simultaneously, the feature is meant for forwarded calls. You can choose to ring the forwarded destinations sequentially or simultaneously.

What? That is exactly what happens, the DV app and forwarded destinations ring simultaneously if it is set to simultaneous. I thought that was the whole point so if you didn't happen to have cell phone/data coverage or your device was off, it would still ring the other destinations so you can pick up. It works fine, except for the case when one of the destinations is another DV number (which happens to be always forwarded).

I stand corrected, should have read Steve's post with clearer eyes. "When set to Simultaneous, incoming calls are sent to the main account number and all configured Follow Me numbers."

So you are correct, it should act as you state. I'd call in to support and report it since the forum isn't their official way of opening trouble tickets.

Follow-me feature is great, but one thing I'd like to see corrected is that if you call the Fongo number from one of the follow-me numbers (say from my cell phone) I get an immediate answering machine (since I'm calling myself). It would be nice to see a rule added that prevented a number from forwarding to itself in the Follow Me feature.

Hi Ganlron,
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll see what can be done to accommodate that in future updates to the system.

Another feature req that should probably go in the suggestions area as a topic of it's own, another user has been hoping to see follow-me to have a third option, which only forwards when there are no registered uses of the account.

I believe you can use the Call Forward when Unavailable to accomplish that?

Ganlron: The issue there is if you have your ATA registered at home and choose to ignore it, the call comes to your follow-me list as you were "unavailable" at that location after X number of rings.

He wants something he can just set and forget. Remember humans are intrinsically lazy.

Hoping someone can clarify the follow-me call forward when unavailable option. The setup states "Call Forward When Unavailable will only forward calls when you are offline."

If my ATA is registered as online (so it is not "offline" as stated above) and I do not answer, will the call still go to voicemail or will it go to the call forward number?
I would like it go go to voicemail - and only go to the call forward number if my ATA has gone offline.
If this is not the case - can that option be incorporated? This to me is a safety feature as sometimes the ATA will lose its connection and not re-connect unless the unit and router are turned off and back on. It is at this time that I would like the call forward to kick in as I may not be around to do the reboot - and not realize for a long period of time that the ATA has disconected.
Anyways clarifcation on when exactly the call forward when unavailable kicks in (when ATA is offline or when I don't answer phone) would be appreciated.

Yes and no ....

Follow-me ALWAYS will ring the forward number directly, without ringing your softphone/ata at ALL ....
FM Unavailable will attempt to ring your ATA/softphone (assuming it is online) and if nothing is answered, will then ring your FM# (or #'s). If your softphone/ATA is completely offline (not registered), it will act as in ALWAYS, forwarding immediately.

Does that clear THAT part of things up?
