Fongo Home Phone is here!

Postby FONGO_Announcements » 07/18/2012

Hi everyone,

Today we publically launched the first ever free home calling service for Canadians. Fongo Home Phone is the latest way we're working to save you time and money.

For a one-time cost of $59.00 and a monthly Essential Services fee of $4.95, you get a complete home phone solution that includes:

• Free Canadian phone number/one-time fee for number porting
• Free unlimited local calling to most of Canada (complete list here)
• Free calls to and from other Fongo customers anytime, anywhere in the world
• Free voicemail, caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding
• Free voicemail to email service
• International calling rates as low as 2 cents per minute
• Supports 911 emergency calls

With network coverage from coast to coast, and free calling across most of Canada, Fongo Home Phone is an easy way to save an average of $500/year per household in home phone expenses.

Are you a Freephoneline or Dell Voice user? We are pleased to confirm that this will not affect the service you are currently receiving. We're addressing the needs of Canadians who feel they are paying too much
for their home phone bill but aren't ready to give up home phone service.

Check out the coverage over on the Financial Post: http://www.financialpost.com/markets/ne ... story.html

Does this mean, that like with the DellVoice offering, that the ability to purchase the SIP config file for your own devices is going away also? Is this a strategic shift in the way that Fongo markets their products? I am concerned that I will be losing the ability to purchase the config files on my existing accounts as this transition to a monthly subscription service continues.

Please also clarify whether or not there will be "grandfathering" for those customers that have existing DellVoice accounts that are affected by the new-found un-purchaseability of config files.

Thanks for your clarification!

TheHardy - Thank you for your question and happy to clarify -- we have no plans to discontinue the sale of SIP config files on Freephoneline.ca.

As for Dell Voice customers who purchased SIP config files, we will continue to provide service to these customers. SIP config files will no longer be sold through Dell Voice.

Can you clarify what is "a monthly Essential Services fee of $4.95"? and what is the different Freephoneline and the new home phone?

Thank you

Hi netyang,

the difference between the two has been discussed at length through various threads in these forums. you can use the search bar in the top left to do a quick search (warning: there are numerous threads on the topic)

The 4.95 essential services fee's helps cover the cost of e911 access, network maintenance and improvement as well as CRTC and a couple other factors. These fee's are charged by the vast majority of phone and cell providers.

I am experiencing issues with my line right from beginning, and have written into the forum, still no response, for more than a month. Outgoing calls are good but for the incoming calls it says 'account not valid'. I f this is not resolvable, can I still transfer my number back to my previous carrier? ticket # was 1728

While it is not impossible that the problem you have is at the Fongo end, in which case you should contact then directly, but more likely that the problem is at your end. Have you forwarded all the ports required to run Fongo to your ATA which should have a static IP? For a start make sure that you are running "NAT Keep alive" For additional help you need to give more information about the configuration of you router/ATA,
