Keeping Existing Number after Porting and Changing Numbers

Post by FONGO_kris »

ATTENTION ALL:

Porting to Freephoneline:
Please ensure that when filling out our Letter of Authorization form you are TYPING it out. Only your signature is permitted to be hand written. A Letter of Authorization, authorizes us (Fibernetics/Freephoneline.ca) to take ownership of your phone number.

We also require a copy of your most recent phone bill (within the last 30 days). To submit these forms you can e-mail or fax them to the addresses provided on the form. Please ensure that you do NOT provide your current carrier with any indication that you are cancelling / porting out, since in many cases they take this to be your 30 days notice and we cannot port out your number if there is a pending disconnect, be it far away from the current date of submission or not.

Keeping Your Original Freephoneline.ca Number After Porting:
In order to process this properly, you must have another number we can port the number you request onto; since when we port a number into our service, we replace your original Freephoneline number with the number you are porting in, you cannot keep both. If you choose to keep both numbers, you must register for a new number for us to port onto, this does however require the purchase of another configuration file on the number you wish to port onto.

Changing Telephone Numbers:
We do not 'change' telephone numbers. In order to 'change' this, you must register for a new number from our website, then you may choose whether or not to purchase a configuration file. Regardless, we cannot change your number/area code if you move or are travelling - Any move should be treated as such and a new number should be registered under your name.

That last line is sort of confusing...If I move and want to keep the same number, is it possible?

Yep!
Just make sure you update your address on your account, as that is required for 911 purposes.

Anther thing is that I am not sure about is the sequencing.

1) port the number through you guys
2) Sign LOA and send back
3) wait for a response from FPL verifying that number has been ported
4) call ISP to get dry loop installed...but try to time with item 3.
5) cancel Bell

Is this right order?

I sent in the LOA on Feb 25... My problem is that I am at stage 3 and I don't have a clue when the number will be ported... I haven't been given a notification that the porting is in progress or an anticipated date. I would like to tell my ISP so that I can let them know when its happening.

If I can make a suggestion, it would be to send people this information too (or even a link to this page) when you send out the LOA...it would help answer a lot of questions.

PS - keep up the good work.

I've made some minor corrections here, but could you PM me your number so I can check that status?:

1) Sign LOA and send back with a telephone bill less than 60 days old.
2) Wait for a response from FPL verifying that we've received the paperwork and you've been billed for the port request.
3) FPL will call you when we have a date for your porting to take place and again on that date.
4) Call ISP to get dry loop installed on the date your porting is taking place.
5) Cancel with your Local Voice Provider.

Usually you can "Veiw Printer Safe Version" or export as PDF to a file, if not, save it as an image.

I'm redoing our LOA here so it will have a place for your Bell/Rogers/Telus/etc... Customer Number and Account Number which will also simplify things. We still require the bill but it is more or less "proof" for your carrier than to us.

With VBuzzer I know it's all online, but again you can either export to PDF/JPEG or simply screenshot the area with your customer and account number.

All of the information regardless of what you send to us needs to ALSO be reflected on the Letter of Authorization.

My ISP (Acanac) wants at least 3 days notice before the porting will happen or else they say its not enough time.

Of course, the porting department is usually notified 5 days ahead of time of the porting date at which time a representative would call you and inform you of that date.

One thing I wanted to know was...when i move and Bell has no service at the house/apartment, does the next person just call up Bell to setup a new number for themselves like normal? i live in apartment and want to make sure this isn't going to create any new problems.

Well that would just be like when you regularly move - Bell is deactivated and unprovisioned and once the new person moves in they would either move their existing Bell number over or yes, call and setup home phone / internet.

I sent in the LOA and haven't heard back so I am in the dark right now.

Thank you so much, admin (Kris)

I requested porting my phone number from vbuzzer, and last evening I found my vbuzzer phone number not working any more, as it's evening and I though it's not working hours so I did not call customer support instead I PMed admin here.

This morning at 8:27, I get email from admin, the problem fixed.

Very quick response, I am very satisfied with the customer support . I am very happy to switch to freephoneline from vbuzzer.

Thank you again

Since VBuzzer is also SIP you may need to cancel with them before calls from other VBuzzer numbers are properly routed. Unfortunately this is a problem with their switch and not ours, so I cannot help as much as I'd like.

hi,

what is the cost of porting-in my number to fpl?

after the port to fpl, will I still own the number? (in the event I would like to port it out for whatever reason in the future)

thanks

Porting out to FPL is $25,00 + taxes.

According to the CRTC rules you should be allowed keeping your existing number when changing provider.

Last June 29th I got answers from the Canadian Number Administrator that says "Once the number is ported, the VoIP reseller becomes the assignee of the number, and if the subscriber wishes to change VoIP providers, the number will stay with the old VoIP reseller and can only be released for porting if the old VoIP provider wishes it to be released".

But before having written this it was also written that Fibernetics is not a reseller.

I have read a case in a forum from someone porting to a VoIP provider but when wanting to port out to another provider they would not let him take his number.

So to be sure I would, in writing, ask FPL if you were to port to them would they allow you to keep that number if you were to switch to another provider.

If you port in, you can port out. No questions asked. :)
So there's no need to worry about loosing your number.

quick question: since I have my own FPL number already with a purchased config file.. is it only $25+tax to get my old voip ported to FPL? will it replace the current number I have with FPL?

Yes, when you port a number into us it replaces your currently FPL number unless you specify otherwise. If you want to keep your existing FPL number and port another number in, then a second number and config will be needed.
