free Fax to Email

Fax to Email - This is a really great feature !

I had no idea you offered this as part of the free package. You should highlight this in your advertising as I only found out by reading another post in the forum. Other VOIP providers don't have this feature or they charge extra for it.

Paul, the reason we do not promote this feature is that it is still under development.

There is a chance that it may not work 100% of the time.

The fax to email is not part of our regular service but works as something of an accident. There is an option to have all voicemail forwarded to your email address (used in registration) and since faxes get stored as voicemail, they will follow the same behavior rules you set down within your account. You can find this option within your Freephoneline.ca login.

We do not advertise this because our systems do not consistantly work with faxes, but with the right combiniation of settings you may just get to work (I suggest the G711a instead of G711u codec, with an RTP packet size of 0.080 [though it will suck up about 1GB per 25 faxes - sent and recieved - so 50 in total but it varies], the ATA we sell (PAP2T-NA) also needs this to run faxes:

Fax Tone Detection Pass-Through::
Fax Pass-Though - Using G711a
DTMF: In-band
Jitter Buffer: Extremely High
Echo Cancellation: G.165/G.168
Caller ID Generation: ETSI

Ring Voltage: 40-55 VRMS
Ring Frequency: 10 Hz - 40 Hz
Ring Waveform: Trapezoidal
Maximum Ringer Load: 3 REN
On-hook voltage (tip/ring): -50 V NOMINAL
Off-hook current: 25 mA min
Terminating Impedance: 8
North America 600 ohms, European CTR21
as well as:
Dial Plan: (*xx|[3469]11|0|00|[2-9]xxxxxx|1xxx[2-9]xxxxxxS0|xxxxxxxxxxxx.)
and

This is something we will work on in the future when we have all the rest of the bugs worked out of the system and all the extra features on the easily modefied systems like the soft phone.

I've tried this and it didn't work for me. Maybe too many rings with the "Follow Me" enabled before the fax machine gave up. The Voice Mail messages do come through to e-mail O.K. though.

Anybody else actually have this working? If so, what are your settings?

Please keep in mind, that the fax to email as mentioned above is not an added function of FPL though it can sometimes work.

Those settings above are just a guideline that I have created and you may make as many changes as nessicary to make it work, if it will.

i am using this feature for fax to email and it is working very good, within your pap2t just make the fax method to reinvite and lower the band on the fax to 13200 or 9600 and it will work smoothly.

Hi "FreePhoneLine" I am really impressed with your service ... especially with the "non documented" FAX receiving service ... Thank you ... :-)
Otherwise I have a two question:
1. Can I calculate for the fax service in the future, or this is only a ß version ? Do you plan in the future to pay for this ?
I am asking, because before I publicate my number as my "Fax number" that would be great to know that ...
2. Is there any solution to use the FPL for outgoing fax service ?
I still purchased a config file from you ... do you think the outgoing fax will work through the ATA ... or is there any VOIP/FAX software solution ?

Right now we are testing some VoIP gateways which support specifically T.38 Faxing and secondly G711u codecs which WILL support outgoing faxes, no ETA on a release yet so unfortunately you will have to purchase your own fax capable ATA.

Ps MAKE SURE when you buy it you ask if it's T.38 Fax Codec capable!!

OMG technobabble! Forgive me if this question has been answered in the lingo...

Will the fax to email send it as an email attachment you can view, such as a JPEG or PDF? So that you may store it as a useful document and optionally print it or forward it to others if needed? This would certainly be nice.

The settings below contradicts the settings listed in the PAP2 config. tutorial. Inside the PAP2 - Line 1 panel, there is no such tab that says "Fax Tone Detection Pass-Through". Can you advise "where" to set these parameters inside the PAP2-T console??

The reason the settings may contradict is because we only change the settings (after resetting to factory default) that are need to make successful calls, and not configure them to make faxing.

So basically, its only one or the other then? Its either fax only settings, or voice only? there are no settings to compromise for both usage?

I have managed to send a few faxes using the standard settings. I get the feeling it has a lot to do with what fax machine you are sending from and to.

Jake is right, and if you have a 2-Line ATA then you can use L1 for voice and L2 for fax, or vice versa.

Remember that when sending fax-over-IP, you fax machine needs to slooow down it's tx method and send it at a "Super-Fine", or "Photo" rate to get the best results.

Faxes that come through your voicemail will be received as a single PDF file with however many pages are sent to you, voicemail will show as a .au file which is universally playable with most media players.

This is excellent :)

is it possible to upload a PDF file and then fax it? Is there a cost for this service?

(I have a slow internet connection, so far cannot get SIP softphones, ekiga et. al., to work, so hesitate to get an ATA given the "lite" connection.)
