Voicemail Emails

Post by willhslade »

Hi,

I like them, but wouldn't encoding them to MP3 make more sense? I could play them within my Gmail and not have to download them.

Thanks,
Slade

PS Also, shouldn't the Forum and Freephoneline logins be the same? It's kind of silly to have two login systems.

This is true and somewhat of an afterthought. If we were to switch it now everyone who had an account with the forum would have to re-register.

I will see what I can do about the MP3 VM to Email format.

99% of VOIP providers will stay away from .mp3 based voicemail because of the compression. We usually see Wav used because wav is a raw format with no compression. The minute voicemail needs to be made into .mp3 it has to be run through a compression CODEC to change it from it's raw form into an mp3. If you can imagine having to do this hundreds or thousands of times a minute when the system gets busy (and even more as we grow), it would require quite massive amounts of server horsepower. It's not to say it can't be done, but it would be a very costly undertaking because as our clientele numbers grow and more and more calls are going to voicemail each minute, we would need more computing power to be converting all these raw voicemails into compressed .mp3 voicemails. Your suggestion has certainly been added to the list though :) I just wanted to give a better background on the subject to everyone else with the same question!
