credit card info stored in FreePhoneLine CRM - not good..!

Post by volenin »

I just talked to the FreePhoneLine rep and it turns out that the credit card information used for purchases is actually retained within the system, including the security code at the back of the card! Can this policy be changed?... I don't recall that I was even notified that the CC info will be stored at the time of the purchase, let alone stored with all extra security information...

This is the case with ALL companies. The credit card info in our system ONLY shows:

Credit Card Number: ************1234
CCV2 Number: 123
Exp Date: 01/13
Name on Card: John Doe

So as you can see not even our billing admin or CFO can see the CC numbers, it is all billed automatically so there is NO need for us to see your credit card info. If you have any additional charges you did not authorize or know about, call us, and we will fix it and credit you.

I can garuntee you that our billing system is 100% secure.

Here is a list of companies that store your credit card info on their servers -- keep in mind that I personally use all of these...:

iTunes
eBay
PayPal
Amazon.com
HP.com, Dell.com, Toshiba.com, Apple.com
Bestbuy Online
Futureshop Online
Any third party software company

As you can see we aren't the only ones... If you have any further complaints email a detailed complaint to me at admin@freephoneline.ca - If you would really like me to I will sent it to our billing staff for review.

In addition to this - there is a programmer working on a non-manual billing platform for the Freephoneline system and this will soon be in effect. When it does, there will be no retention of CC information at all for you to worry about. So while our manual billing means that our billing department looks at each one right now, that will soon be altered so that no one looks at it after the agent you speak to enters it in.

Yes you are correct.

If you bought a config file for a friend or any other one time payments, you may request your CC info be removed after your payment is processed and confirmed.

Keep in mind if you wish to purchase anything else you will need to provide it again.

You MUST call in to change any account info. You should have your friend there to validate / authorize the changes just to be safe.
