is there a utility to monitor my data usage on a daily basis?

is there an automated warning sent if I get near the 2 gig monthly limit?

Depending on your phone, usually they have a built in Data Usage setting. You can set it when to start monitoring on which day of the month and you can setup a warning at what ever level for a warning. I have the Galaxy S5 and it has that ability in its settings.
