Re: New Account- New Sim Card- New Phone - No In/Out Calling

Post by Jake »

The Fongo Wireless plans are DATA only. they do not include any call minutes which is why you are getting that error when you try and make a call.

You need to install the Fongo Mobile app and make calls through that. https://www.fongo.com/services/fongo-mobile/

If you are getting data on your phone, then the SIM card is working properly, you just need to use the app (which uses data to make the calls) rather than the native phone dialler.

Thanks for the Quick Reply! That certainly Clarifies what is going on.
I Thought, "Fongo Wireless", was to make phone calls..
So, Now I got a Wireless SIM Card for Data Only, that I didn't want (because Texting is NOT MY CUP OF TEA!)

Fongo Wireless: with the SIM Card, I can use the phone anywhere I can connect to Roger's Cellular Service, to send and rec. SMS texts (Data) only - Without a Wifi Connection - Using the Fongo Mobile APP.

Can you Clarify some of the other ADD ONS for Fongo Mobile, Please!:

Fongo Wireless - is Basically this plan - but without a Wifi Connection as I understand it:
Unlimited SMS Texting: $2.79/Month - Send & receive unlimited SMS messages.
(For Text Only using Fongo Mobile with Wifi ONLY ?)

Fongo Plus:$9.99/Month Enhance your experience with unlimited US calling, ad-reduction, reveal a quick-select nav bar,
customize your caller ID, and more!
( using Fongo Mobile with Wifi ONLY?)

Can I get a Refund/Rebate...
Do I Keep the SIM Card for Future Use?
Are there any Fongo Plans, with Wireless "Cellular Phone Service" - Without Wifi?

I'll sent an email to say the Ticket is Resolved - Is that something You Take Care of, On This Website too?
Thanks!

The DATA will give you the same as being connected to a home WiFi. It's essentially internet out and about.

The wireless plan will not allow you to text through the native texting app either. Essentially calling and texting is done through the Fongo Mobile app.
The Fongo Mobile app gives you a telephone number that people can call or text to. It will also allow you to call pretty much any Canadian number free of charge. (incoming calls and text messages are free to the app)

The unlimited texting add-on will allow you to send text messages through the app. Without it, you can only send a text to someone else who uses the Fongo Mobile app.

Fongo Plus will also include free calling to the US, reduced international calls, and a couple of other perks.

The Fongo Mobile app will work on either a WiFi connection or the DATA plan you currently have. It might suit your purposes if making calls is all you are after. You can install the app and you will get to make and receive calls when you are at home or out and about. Essentially wherever you can get an internet connection.

As for a refund, I have no idea. You will have to ask them about that.
The Community Moderators here are literally that. Just members of the community that help out. We are not employed by Fongo, we just try and give advise when we can.
Anything account-related has to go through official support tickets.

Please Cancel my Fongo Wireless Account as REQUESTED

Post by dmackay »

I asked that Fongo Cancel my Wireless Service,
Immediately after I got my Sim Card and found out that I could not make Phone Calls.

But they did not do that and Now I got an email for another payment that will be taken from my Credit Card!

I thought they had cancelled the service, because a few days ago- I was not able to send a text message!
Nor can I get a text message Verification Codes from places like PayPal which has Blocked me Out of My Account because I need to have a Cell Phone Verification!

They Don't even seem to think it's a Real Phone Number I guess!

PLEASE CANCEL THIS USELESS SERVICE!

I also want to add that I took the Credit Card Payment Information, Off the Account.
So why are you able to keep withdrawing from it?
I thought my request last month was Acknowledged but there's a Lack of Communication:

Re: [Fongo Support] Re: Ticket #802458 - Wireless [Issues] No Data - New Device

I was not having trouble with obtaining data on my Sim Card.
I thought I would be able to make Phone Call with the Sim Card - Without a Wifi Connection; However, I was mistaken.

I Do Not Want a Data Card; and I have Not Used it - therefore request a Refund if Possible.

Please do not withdrawal any more Payments.

Thank You,
Darren

I have Filed another "Ticket"

I asked last month that my Fongo Wireless Service be cancelled IMMEDIATELY after finding out I could not make phone calls.

I though you had done this.

Even a few days ago, I was not able to send a text message.
Nor was I able to get text verification codes from PayPal, etc.

This SERVICE IS USELESS...

Now I get another Invoice that says you will deduct it from my credit card..
Which I had Also REMOVED from the ACCOUNT

If you do not issue a Refund and Cancel this Useless Service, I will Report it to the Credit Card Company as an UNAUTHORIZED PAYMENT!

Regards,

You can using the Fongo Mobile app, which requires cellular data that the Fongo Wireless sim card provides, to make calls. A Wi-Fi connection is not required.
The amount of cellular data provided per month is based on the plan you selected: https://www.fongo.com/services/fongo-wireless/.

Fongo Wireless usage and payment info can be found by following the directions at https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/arti ... less-Usage.
a few days ago- I was not able to send a text message
SMS texts must be sent using the Fongo Mobile application. The included texting package with Fongo Wireless includes texting to Canadian numbers only.
Texting with Fongo Mobile also requires cellular data; so if you ran out of data for the month, it stands to reason a user is also unable to send texts when the Fongo Wireless data plan is depleted.

Otherwise, I have no idea why you were unable to send a text message using Fongo Mobile if you were in a strong cellular data signal area (or on Wi-Fi). Possibly, a Fongo support representative is able to check your Fongo Mobile account for potential (SMS) errors that may have occurred. Fongo volunteer moderators don't have access to your account information.

Nor can I get a text message Verification Codes
Visit https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/arti ... ort-codes-.

Paypal is known to block many VoIP numbers. There's some exceptions. Fongo Mobile is a VoIP (using SIP Protocol) service.

just at a glance of your reply, ( have to leave home to go out for day)
I know I never used up too much data on the plan. I Only sent about 5 texts MAX and just a sentence or two
When I wasn't able to send a text - I was actually at home with No Wifi.
It was not able to connect or send the message.

As you can see, I filed a new ticket.
I hope they will cancel the service.

Thank You.

Unless the cellular data signal was weak at the spot in your home where you were using the app, I'm not sure why the Fongo Mobile app was unable to connect.

Since Receiving another Email, I Consider this Matter to be RESOLVED

Dear Darren MacKay,

This is a notice to remind you that you have an invoice due on Friday, October 20th, 2023. We tried to bill you automatically but were unable to because we don't have your credit card details on file.

Invoice Date: Thursday, October 19th, 2023.

Just to Sum up this POST or Posts, which appears to be a Couple - that have been Combined:
I Think the Marketing for this Service is Somewhat Ambiguous.

What is Fongo Wireless?
1 year ago Updated
Fongo Wireless is a data-only connectivity plan for your mobile devices, giving you the freedom of using Fongo Mobile and Fongo Works outside of WiFi coverage.

https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/arti ... -Wireless-

Not Assinging any of the above Problems ...
Additionally, I have an ANDROID 8 Phone- which the Service can Not be Downloaded and Installed from Google Play.
Nor, does Fongo - Offer Download Links, on their Own Site.

Fongo Mobile, has been Terrific - as a Free Wireless App.
It's Certainly, Not the Best Quality of a Communication Medium.

The Wireless Part of the Service, and Customer Service, Needs Improvement.

I could not make any Phone Calls with the Wireless Plan.
The Few Text I had done of about 6:
Texting was Not Possible when my Wifi was Down!

Thank You for your replies and Great Support

Okay, I changed the thread title.
Additionally, I have an ANDROID 8 Phone- which the Service can Not be Downloaded and Installed from Google Play.
Nor, does Fongo - Offer Download Links, on their Own Site.
Fongo Wireless doesn’t require an application to install. It’s basically a SIM card that provides the user with cellular data (internet) access.
The user may need to provision the service: https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/arti ... int-Names-.

The Fongo Mobile application, which allows Fongo Wireless users to call and text using the cellular data provided by the Fongo Wireless SIM card, download links are located at https://www.fongo.com/services/fongo-mobile/.

I could not make any Phone Calls with the Wireless Plan.

Texting was Not Possible when my Wifi was Down!
These two statements may indicate Fongo Wireless was not provisioned properly on the phone, unfortunately.
If you don’t have internet access, which is what Fongo Wireless is supposed to provide via its SIM card (cellular data), Fongo Mobile can’t work.
