MWI - Message Waiting Indicator not working
I had this problem several months ago and at that time it was a system wide problem that lasted from Friday to Monday, one weekend. Just happened to be a weekend I was waiting for an important call and had no idea I had missed it. The issue is that that message waiting indicator is not triggering my phones to alert that there is a new message waiting. Sure enough if you pick up the phone and listen to the dial-tone it hasn't changed to the faster one that triggers the phones to light up letting you know there is a message waiting. I have already power-cycled everything and that did not help.
Is this issue affecting anyone else?

Re: MWI - Message Waiting Indicator not working
Well mine was working up until last weekend.
Last weekend I picked up some new phones, and moved the location of my ATA to connect to home wiring. Since then, no longer even get the quick stuttered dial tone.. Everything else works fine, and is super clear.
I was originally using a Cisco ASA5505 as my firewall/router, but decided to put back my good old WRT54G with Tomato f/w, just in case, i put in a bad rule in my ASA5505 (sometimes the rules on Cisco's IOS, can get a little overwhelming). Anyhow, it made no difference. Then I did a user reset, and factory default reset and reconfigured everything, and it still does not work.
I call, I leave a message and when I check my SPA-2102, in the status screen, it always says "Message waiting: NO". So obviously, it doesn't change dialtone or visual indicator. Not picking up the info from the server. If I try to override in the user setting, to Message waiting: YES, then I get the tone and visual indicator, but that kind of defeats the purpose I dial in using *98, and the messages are there...
I even tried to downgrade my SPA2102 to the older 3.3.6 firmware in case it was the new linksys/cisco firmware causing the bug. no difference. I check all settings, and WMI and VWMI are both set to YES. I even tried changing the Mailbox Subscribe Expires to 180, and even the registration expiry also to 180, just in case it was a refresh issue, and still nothing. Tried setting Voice Mail Server to voip.freephoneline.ca, VMWI Ring Policy - tried all of them.. VMWI Refresh Intvl changed to everything from 0, 2, 15, etc...
Nothing seems to make a difference.. Strange thing, is that it was all working 1 week ago.. I even went back to assigning a static IP to the ATA and pluggin it into my old 10/100 switch instead of my gigabit switch, in case there was something strange on the auto-negotiate on the network.
Emailed FPL, and they said that they resent my account on their end, just in case, but the problem still persists.. Not sure what ATA you have, but I checked with a buddy of mine who also has FPL, but running on a Thomson ST780WL, and his is working fine. Wondering if it is specific maybe to the SPa-2102.. My buddy has a spare PAP2T, so I will borrow that next week (when I see him) and i will test it on my system if I don't find anything.
I will fiddle with it agan on the weekend, but I am running out of ideas...
Everything else works fine, including Caller ID (in/out), and even Call Waiting.. So it is very strange.
Any ideas are welcome..

Re: MWI - Message Waiting Indicator not working
Mine is the same.
Left a test voicemail, it's now been almost 2 days since and no indicator.
Nothing has changed on my end, still using the PAP2T that is in my profile info.
Something must have changed on the server.
I wonder if it is only certain ATA models or something...
Anyone else having this issue?
Please post either way, if you are having the issue or if yours is working.
Also what ATA device you are using.

Re: MWI - Message Waiting Indicator not working
I am having the same issue with two units, 1 using a Linksys PAP2T ad the other using the freephoneline supplied Goldstream HT-286. Power cycled all the ATA's without any luck, no changes made on my end, but no VM indications at all.
Any solution to this? Will this ever be resolved as it has been going for a while now.

Re: MWI - Message Waiting Indicator not working
I will throw in a "me too" for not having the fast dial tone...never did.
I am using a Freephoneline configured Thomson 784

Hopefully when they do this http://forum.freephoneline.ca/viewtopic ... 990#p12990 it should fix it.dm1a wrote:I will throw in a "me too" for not having the fast dial tone...never did.

Re: MWI - Message Waiting Indicator not working
My MWI just kicked in and is indicating a voicemail now.
I haven't tested clearing it and doing another but I assume it is working.
Guess something was changed on the server since nothing changed on my end at all.
A shame it took just under a week to get it fixed...

Re: MWI - Message Waiting Indicator not working
My MWI is now working, as well.
Sorry I couldn't send in my number to you Steve, I have been out of town until yesterday.
On a somewhat related note, but much larger picture, has FPL considered reconfiguring how they issue the MWI alerts? It would be great to get it down from the very long 10 minute check-in interval. This was discussed in a lot more detail several months ago.
A more responsive and reliable MWI would certainly help you win over more home users.

Re: MWI - Message Waiting Indicator not working
Now seems to work as I remember it
Thanks Steve, much appreciated...
I can finally put back my Cisco ASA-5505 and finish all the mappings and rules I needed.. And I thought I had just mangled the rules

Try restarting your ATA and waiting 10-20 minutes. If still no luck, PM me your number.dm1a wrote:Still not working for me...4 messages in my inbox with no audible indication.

Re: MWI - Message Waiting Indicator not working
I still have no audible message waiting. I have tried the reboot, checked settings in Thomson ATA etc, messaged tech support and PM'ed FPL-Steve, and haven't heard anything back. This feature has never worked for me.

Re: MWI - Message Waiting Indicator not working
I have just joined and had my home phone ported yesterday.
MWI is not working, but am set up to have the message emailed. What is the trick to enable MWI? is it a server side or ATA setting?
Cheers!

Re: MWI - Message Waiting Indicator not working
It does take up to 10 minutes after the massage has been left before the MWI activates. Likewise it takes up to 10 minutes before the MWI turns itself off after you have cleared the messages.dahomephone wrote:I have just joined and had my home phone ported yesterday.

This is because of FPL's voicemail system and there is no settings you can change for this.
Usually most ATAs are set up fine for MWI, it could be you just cleared down the call before the script ran to check for messages that have been left and tell you about it.
