[RESOLVED] Are you experiencing random dropped calls?
Hello, I recently noticed that i have a random disconnect issue. Now seems like totally random, sometime works flawlessly sometime disconnect within 2, 11 minutes. I don't mind if random disconnect when talking with friends of family but if it happen when you talking with 911 operator??
I am using PAP2T-NA settings as per instruction from FPL. Any idea? (I never had an issue with paid VoIP)

Re: Random disconnect
Hmm, that sounds strange, normally what I would do in your case would be:
1- Double check the configuration file that FPL sold you and notice if it match with your settings in your ATA ( just by any case, make sure you do not have a special character in the display name like $,@,#,&,etc)
2-In case you have a Router open ports 10000,20000,5060,5061 in the UDP.
That would be my piece of sand to help you

Re: Random disconnect
Port forwarding is definitely of paramount importance. (You may want to try the alternate SIP ports of 6060 and 6061 as well)
Also how many phones are you running from that port? ( I suspect not enough power draw to matter, but always ask )
Also try using the $PING keep-alive message.
Remember network activity as a whole can have an effect, so keep an eye on other programs and what they're doing at the same time, could give you a clue as to network issues if such do exist. (Jitter and Latency should be as low and as stable as possible, stable being the more important rating.)
Does your router support QOS? Is it implemented? If so, what router is it, do we know how it manages the connections? (Some will hold-back or drop a packet altogether depending on settings to wait for more important traffic.) Of course that can cause things like kee-alives to be delayed beyond the maximum time-out effectively closing the connection.
If you are implementing QOS, I highly suggest that the ATA and VoIP traffic be given the highest priority of all network traffic, (while P2P etc, should take a back seat at lowest priority.)
Search around the board a bit, there are lots of troubleshooting steps outlined our there.

Re: Random disconnect
The issue only happen with FPL, I had been using for paid VoIP for years and never had an issue with this kind of hiccups. Having said that I have no issue with my Internet connection or hardware settings. I just basically switch the phone#.
What happen is when talking to someone on the phone and suddenly the voice go blank, not a disconnected or busy tone, just blank.
I have QoS enabled with highest priority for VoIP.
I dug the forum and found a couple posts that has the similar issue, dropped call.
http://forum.freephoneline.ca/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=756
http://forum.freephoneline.ca/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=780
and, unfortunately no real resolution. Steve mentioned about load balancing issue on the server..
Any idea? Please help...

Re: Random disconnect
Casper, I have totally forgot to ask you, what kind of ATA are you using and Router so far? Also you mention it is a frequent disconnection but do you have the time when this started to happen for the very first time?
Knowing this, some one from the forum (Admin,Steve or even us the gladly freephonelinehood) could come with a game plan to see how to fix it.

Re: Random disconnect
I would recoomend to make a test connection like: Regular modem->Linksys to see how it works, also have you try to put the ATA in DMZ mode?.
Sometimes a ping test can help and even a log event as well to see the information display.

Re: Random disconnect
Have you tried in opening port 5060-5061,10000,20000 in the UDP, also make sure if your firewall is allowing the connection go through, in case not take a look to it and DMZ you could use it as a reserve weapon in case all fails.
By the way did you check the calls log to see what it says? Another thing, as the title says "Random disconnect" is there any time that work fine or just happen when making/receiving a call?
Please try the other things or let me know in case you did, I will shake my head to see what else I could tell you.

[RESOLVED] Are you experiencing random dropped calls?
Although the overall percentage of users experiencing this is not large, we would like to make a formal investigation into the number of dropped calls our forum users here are reporting.
Here's what we need from you, should you wish to help.
Please keep a note of the following details of your dropped calls:
Called From: (Number call originated from - might be your FPL, might be whoever called into your FPL)
Called To: (the other party involved in the call)
Time call started:
Time call dropped:
Make sure the freephoneline number is highlighted or tagged, so we can find the appropriate account when gathering logs.
Reports can be PM'd to me with the title "Dropped Call Report". I'd ask that if this happens frequently, please gather many reports before PMing me as my inbox gets overwhelmed on a normal day, let alone with all these reports coming into it.
We will investigate and update this post as needed.

Re: Random disconnect
Thanks Winston for your reply,
As far as I remember during setup of FPL on my VOIP router / WRT310
I never touch any UDP or any port you mention in you reply but everything was working fine since 2 year
That disconnection issue just started couple of days ago and I noticed seems like it gone now
But any how I will check these port meanwhile I have another issue during incoming call I can't see caller ID except "incomplete data" message blink on phone screen
Please advise

First, you need to log in your account. Then you will find the PM button on every member account.
If you are not loging in, you can not send PM.
To log in your account, click on your account name and then log in.

Re: Random disconnect
I am using Linksys SPA 3102. I had about 10 calls drops over a month. My phone links goes silent. There is no pattern. However, I have noticed that calls ranging from 5-20minuts while drops.
On the other hand, I had used this router with Internetcalls.com before. Never had a call drop…
Thanks
