Can't take incoming calls

Post by laoloup »

I have a Linksys RT31P2. After switching my internet to Fibe25 with a Netis DL4422 Wireless VDSL2 modem router, I can't take incoming calls any more. Outgoing calls are just fine.
For incoming calls, I can still hear the ring, but there's nothing when I pick up. The other side can hear the ring but no voice either.

Do I need to make changes to the configurations?

These symptoms could be caused by several things, the most common of which is a defective SIP ALG with your DL4422 router. If this router has a configuration option to disable its SIP ALG, try to use that. Alternately, try to use voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060 instead of whatever server you are currently using. Let us know if that helps, or changes the symptoms.

No, this behaviour is as designed. It is supposed to do all that ;)

Thanks for the prompt response.
I tried to disable SIP ALG, then calls went straight to voicemail. Outgoing calls wouldn't work either.
I then switched to voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060 (i was originally using voip2.freephoneline.ca), the same symptom remains.
Any other fixes?

Hello,

Perhaps DND (do not disturb) is enabled on your ATA

Please check Jake's reply below, it might help you:

Let me know.

Do what Fongo Support wrote.

Perhaps by my responding here, I've now included too many cooks in the kitchen. If so, my apologies

So, this is a Linksys100 Mbps router with built-in ATA (has a couple of phone ports). I found an emulator: http://ui.linksys.com/RT31P2/1.30.07/Voice_Line1.htm
Looks like it has a NAT firewall built in. Unfortunately, I don't see any Voice-->Line 1 Advanced settings that would include the potential to enable the following:
Handle VIA received: yes
Handle VIA rport: yes
Substitute VIA Addr: yes

If there is an advanced view/menu option that allows you to enable those three settings, please do so.
After switching my internet to Fibe25 with a Netis DL4422 Wireless VDSL2 modem router
http://www.netis-systems.com/en/Downloa ... s/?id=1986

http://www.netis-systems.com/en/Support ... index.html
So, to disable SIP ALG, you would go to Advanced-->ALG
Uncheck "SIP", and click "Apply Changes".

I can't take incoming calls any more. Outgoing calls are just fine.
For incoming calls, I can still hear the ring, but there's nothing when I pick up. The other side can hear the ring but no voice either.
I normally would not suggest this, but since the Linksys RT31P2 appears to have a NAT firewall, you could enable DMZ for the RT31P2
in your netis modem/router. Currently, I suspect you're double NATting otherwise.

http://www.netis-systems.com/en/Support ... fw-dmz.htm
So in your DL442, you would need to to enter the LAN IP address of your RT31P2.

Alternatively, you could stick the DL422 in bridge mode and allow the Linksys to do the PPPoE login.

A. Stick the DL4422 in bridge mode.

B. Use the Linksys RT31P2 to do the PPPoE login. See here: http://ui.linksys.com/RT31P2/1.30.07/pppoe.htm
Unfortunately, with this setup you won't be able to use WI-FI on the Netis DL4422 and would have to use the Linksys for routing to your devices.

Thanks, guys, for all your help. I tried but couldn't get it working. So eventually I contacted the ISP and they happen to have developed a firmware update. Everything got back to normal after applying the firmware upgrade.

From their website:
[Q : DSL - My VoIP phone does not work with Netis 4422 modem.
A : Please download the newest Netis firmware at www.carrytel.ca/download/netis1228.zip. Unzip the netis1228.zip file and update the firmware file netis1228.img for your modem. The new firmware has been tested and working with most of Voip phone providers]
