VOIP knocking out the internet - HELP PLS!

Post by M_Max »

As it started, we were having some problems with our devices. So, to date, we've replaced the voip ATA with a brand new unit...that fixed the issue with our previous ATA that kept getting zapped (red light - power problem).

Next we noticed that sometimes when a call came in, it'd mess up our modem to the point that it would refuse to come back online until whenever it felt ready. Sometimes with a simple AC unplug/plug-ack-in, other times it was a waiting game. Finally, a week ago it was outright unusable despite the lights indicating it was online. So after much kicking and screaming we got Teksavvy to send us a new (well refurb technically) and more up to date modem, Thomson DCM476. Our router is a Cisco EA2700 gigabit router.

Today I was on the phone while on the internet and BOOM, cut again...lost internet after 5minutes into the call. Is there something going on that I'm missing here? Noise in the line, Fongo service interrupting/disrupting the internet feed? Has anybody had this happen or know of any solutions? I've bought and upgraded almost every piece of equipment! I'm very technically inclined so any advice I'll take and try.

Your Fongo service wouldn't be affecting your internet connection.
Are you on a Cable connection or DSL? Both can provide their own connection problems. In the years that i have been working here, i have never seen our ATA's or any other connection method cause internet disconnects.
If this is not related to your actual internet connection, then it may have to do with your network configuration.
