Double call forwarding work/not work on FPL?

Post by sl9280 »

Just want to know if anyone have tested the following scenarios and I am not sure if this is a bug:

1. I have my office phone forwarded to the FPL#
2. I set up my FPL# call forward to my cell phone when "unavilable/followme", Wait time to voicemail=30, wait time for call forwared number before hit voicemail = 30 seconds.
3. I then have my softphone login on my PC.
4. Make call to my FPL#, it rings, pop up on my softphone but I did not answer.
5. After couple of rings, it forwarded to my cell.

This is fine and working in this classic scenario.

However, when I call to my office number:

1. it forwarded the call to my FPL#, it rings my softphone, pop up on my softphone but I did not answer.
5. After couple of rings, the caller get busy tone and FPL didn't call forward to my cell.
6. It even didn't hit my voicemail box.
7. However, if I "rejected" the call instead of letting it die out, it forwarded to my cell.

Turn off softphone and it works:

1. I then turned off softphone (logoff).
2. Call my office number, it was forwarded to my cell directly.

Questions:

1. Can we do double call forwarding just like I setup while we are using the softphone?
2. While I am on line and don't answer incoming call to my softphone, will that be treated as "unavilable"?
3. If yes, why it wouldn't call forward to my cell for call to the office nubmer which call forwarded to the unanswer FPL#?
4. When call directly to unanswer FPL# it will forward to my cell phone, why it is different from question 3?
5. Can we selectively adjust the ringing time on the softphone to make it reject the call when unanswered for less than 30 seconds so that it will have enough time for FPL to call forward the call to the number in the call forward list before hit the busy tone or voicemail box?

Of course use another landline phone from carrier other than my office phone (Bell) and FPL.

I called my office phone that suppose C/F to FPL#, ring the softphone, if not answered, it support to ring the cell phone I forwared from FPL but it didn't.

If I use the same landline call the FPL# direct, it ring the softphone, if not answered, it ring my cell phone.

That's why I asked if double call forwarding is working or not. Or it only allow call to FPL# directly forwarded to my cell phone. It must be direct to the FPL# and not forwarded from another phone??

It seems no FPL official willing to answer this question or they are digging into the handbook for an answer????

Some carriers will time out the call after X number of seconds. I suspect that is the case. I had a similar problem.
Does you office phone ring before it forwards to FPL?
You are saying that if you hit reject, it does work. So FPL is not doing this.

I also tried to use a different carrier phone say AIC to call my office phone number. I got the same result.

The "Reject" was done on the FPL softphone. i.e. if the action is manual initiated, the second call forward to my cell work. However, if it leaves it to FPL to time out, it is not forwarding to my cell or go to my FPL voice mail (suppose the default route). Anyhow, It should not get a busy tone instead. Right?

My office phone rang once and then forwarded to FPL number immediately and it should not be the office phone carrier (Bell) time out as I tried it on AIC phone and got the same result. The overall time before getting a busy tone is less than 30 seconds (standard time out for most carriers).

As I said, if call FPL# directly, it will forward to my cell when not answer the FPL phone in the same time out on softphone.

Any FPL official, please help to answer my questions

After wait for a few days, in not seeing HELP/RESPONSE from FPL, I experienced some figures of the following parameters myself.

The two parameters determine the successful dobule call forwarding are as follow:

1. "Seconds Until Voice mail" (Setup how many seconds will be needed to transfer the call to voicemail. Values are from 2 to 30 seconds).

2. "Number of seconds in the follow me number" (This is the number of seconds we will try you at your other number. After which we will play your personal greeting to the caller and record a message for you. (it must be between 4 and 72 seconds).

Here are my optimal setting:

a. If you want the second call forward to you cell kicks in successfully instead of getting a busy tone, you should not leave "Second Until voice mail" as default to 30 seconds in your profile. This parameter not only control the seconds wait for ringing your FPL softphone or ATA before go to the voice mail, but also the time the VoIP server wait until execute the FollowMe instruction (in my case call forward to my cell phone).

With a setting of less than 30 seconds, the double call forwarding will work and I can receive the call from my cell phone.

b. The second parameter "Number of seconds in the follow me number " determine the FPL VoIP server to wait for the 2nd call forward number to pick up the phone.

If this setting is short enough before my cell phone's voice mail kicks in, it will forward the incoming caller to the FPL voice mail box for leaving a message.

If this setting is long enough for my cell phone's voice mail kicks in, it will forward the incoming caller to my cell phone voice mail for leaving a message.

Bottom line is parameters in a + b < 25 seconds.

For my case:

If I want to forward the caller to FPL voice mail box when both my on-line FPL# and Cell phone numbers not answer the phone.
a. "Second Until voice mail" = 10
b. "Number of seconds in the follow me number " = 13

If I want to forward the caller to my cell's voice mail box when both my on-line FPL# and Cell phone numbers not answer the phone.
a. "Second Until voice mail" = 7
b. "Number of seconds in the follow me number " = 30

Note: my office phone is on Bell network and my cell phone is also on Bell network. It may be different if other users are on different carriers that they may have different timeout scenarios.

Hope these hints will help other users who want to call forward their office phones to their portable FPL# on their PC and if they are not in front of the PC to answer calls then the calls will be forwarded to their cell phones.

Depending on which mail box they want to receive the incoming caller's message, the above parameter settings can be a good starting reference.

How did you contact our support and receive no response - phone or email? All of our email tickets are caught up until the end of yesterday evening. If you had emailed in and received no response, then I'm going to go with the fact we likely never received your email :S

Steve,

My apology, I should make it clear of 'no help/resonpse' only to this thread since my first post on Oct 14, 2010. May be you guys are too busy and overlook this thread until now.

I didn't send this post to FPL technical support as I am not certain this is a bug or setting issue. That's why I share in this post and hope FPL or anyone familiar/experience this issue can share their two cents.

I have to mentioned here clearly that my experience with FPL's help (by sending PM for individual problem) is very effective and I always get timely reponse with solution.
