[Solved] Call other FPL phones fails

Post by Mykael »

Hi,
I'm with FPL since 2014. I've gone through a few configuration changes along years to make my phone continue working, and it is the first time I'm really stuck on a problem. I have check the forum and tried many configurations without success.

Since about a month, I can't call one specific number (the one of my parents). When I call the number, I hear the dial, then a 15s silent, and at the end I have a message telling "The number you are trying to reach is unavailable...". The number of my parents is a FPL line (I converted them to go on FPL). Their configuration on a SPA112 (v1.3.5) works well (I installed myself) and all outbound and inbound calls work fine. It's only between me and them (reverse works, they can call me without problems).

I have checked the phone adapter of my parents to verify if my number have been blocked accidentally, it is not the case.

On my FPL online account the call log registers accordingly the call and shows "normal call clearing". On the FPL account of my parents, I also see the inbound call with "normal call clearing".

I have attached my full configuration. Here are some informations too:
Phone adapter: Linksys PAP2t
Modem-router: CODA-4680 Hitron
SIP: Fizz

Any idea to make this work ?

Thank you all for the help !

For reference, your configuration guide can be found here: http://forum.fongo.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=16294.

Follow these steps, step by step, carefully, in the order they are listed:

1. Disable SIP ALG in your modem/router combo or gateway.
a) Login at "192.168.0.1 then [navigate to] Basic Settings -> Gateway Function tab -> select Disabled for SIP ALG then Save Changes."
https://community.fizz.ca/questions/222 ... -will-work

To understand why SIP ALG often causes horrible problems, please visit https://www.voip-info.org/routers-sip-alg/ (scroll down to the section on SIP ALG problems).

2. Do not port forward unless all else fails. Port forwarding is a security risk. Disable port forwarding in your router.

3. Login to your PAP2

4. In your PAP2, Navigate to Line 1 (or whatever you're using for FPL)-->SIP settings, and change SIP Port to a random number between 30000 and 60000. Do this for security reasons. Also, this step may help to temporarily address a corrupted NAT association that's developed between a router and ATA.

5. Navigate to Line 1-->SIP Settings-->Audio Configuration
a) Change Preferred Codec to G.711u (G.729a is an inferior sounding codec, and I don't want to deal with any codec mismatch issues that might arise)

Click "save settings"

6. In your PAP2T, Navigate to the SIP tab-->NAT Support Parameters, and make sure that the following settings are enabled:

a)Handle VIA received-->yes
b)Handle VIA rport-->yes
c)Substitute VIA Addr-->yes

This helps to ensure RTP (the streaming audio packets sent by FPL's server) packets are sent to your public WAN IP address as opposed to your LAN IP address (nowhere/outer space).

d) NAT Keep Alive Intvl needs to be 20 and not 120
https://support.freephoneline.ca/hc/en- ... redentials

7. STUN Enable should be set to No. Using STUN just creates an additional point of failure. In the event the stun server drops, so does your service.

8. Delete Stun server field

9. STUN Test enable should be no

Click "save settings."

10. After changing and savings settings, reboot your devices. Proper device reboot order is always modem (wait for it to be fully up and running)-->router (wait for Wi-Fi SSIDs to populate and broadcast first--or wait for it to be fully up and running as well)-->ATA in that order

You aren't using your own router, so the reboot order is modem/router combo (wait for it to be fully up and running first)-->ATA.

11. It's also possible there's an issue on your parent's end. Double check their settings: http://forum.fongo.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... 206#p64088. Also click http://forums.redflagdeals.com/anyone-h ... #p26234003 (same instructions apply for their ATA; do not use STUN; use G.711u; NAT Keep alive interval is 20s; disable port forwarding; etc.) Look at steps i to 15 at the bottom of that post.

12. Then test another call.

Thanks for sharing all these informations.
Unfortunately it didn't change anything.
I'll investigate on my parents side and keep you updated in the next few days.

Okay, after checking their settings from http://forum.fongo.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... 206#p64088, ensure you go through steps i through 15 (skip step 3) towards the bottom of the post from http://forums.redflagdeals.com/anyone-h ... #p26234003.

Definitely double check their NAT keep-alive settings.

I finally succeeded to make it work.
On my parents side, I disabled SIP ALG in the TPlink C1200 router and I changed the SIP port (line 1) of a random number above 30000 (i was set on 5060, I put 50000).

Thanks a lot for the help !

SIP ALG in some routers can cause a lot of issues. For security reasons, I edited your post to change the real port number being used (although someone would need to know your parents' IP address first).
Thank you very much for reporting back, and I'm glad the service is working fine for you now.
