[Resolved] PC - Change Audio Source

Post by zzpp1 »

Hello,

I am trying to reroute the audio in and out that Free Phone Line uses. So far it is defaulting to my USB headset which is great... but I have a little one at home and her screams are a bit distracting in work meetings.

I was previously using Google Hangouts which let me set my audio in and out through my noise reduction software, Nvidia RTX, but I don't see an option to do this in freephoneline's settings. I looked through the settings .ini file put couldn't find anything. Any idea how I can switch the routing of the audio through my computer? I would like to avoid using external software like VB Cable as it screws with some of my other programs.

I took a quick look at https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/gu ... tup-guide/.

The audio devices the Freephoneline desktop app uses are governed by selections in Windows sound settings only.

There's no mention of being able to select "(Nvidia RTX Voice)" as a device in Windows sound settings (https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/gu ... tup-guide/), which would be the only option for the FPL desktop app. Instead, I read, "RTX Voice creates a virtual device on your system, and it is this virtual device that we want to use in your voice chat apps to denoise background noise from chat only, and not from your general Windows audio (as it would denoise unwanted audio feeds, like YouTube videos, Spotify music, or game audio)."

In order of this to work with FPL, you would need to change Windows system sound devices to Nvidia RTX Voice.
You can check by navigating to Windows control panel-->Hardware and Sound-->Sound

Select the appropriate Nvidia RTX Voice device (if listed) as the default device under the respective Playback and Recording tabs.
Click "Ok". Then run Freephoneline again.

Keep in mind that RTX Voice will be running for everything you do in Windows--and not just with the FPL desktop app.
After you finish using FPL, you could then revert Windows sound devices back to how they were originally.

If that's not what you want, then unfortunately, due to the Freephoneline desktop app being out of development, as far as I can determine, since February 23, 2013, nothing is likely to change that would help you.

Hi Liptonbrisk,

Thank you for your detailed response. I looked under system settings and found that Nvidia RTX Voice was already selected as my default for both speaker and microphone, but there was another setting "default communication device" in the recording tab that was set to another device. Setting Nvidia RTX Voice as both the default device and the default communication device in the recording tab fixed the issue. Thank you, we can consider this post resolved.

Sorry, I should have specified default communication device in my response. Sloppy on my part.

Thank you for letting me know the problem is resolved!
