[Resolved] Voip.freephoneline.ca - Calls go to voicemail

PostPosted: 04/10/2021

I discovered at approximately 2345hrs Saturday night, my ATA was not registered. Rebooted, and still no registration on " voip.freephoneline.ca ". I changed my server to " voip2.freephoneline.ca " and registration was successfully made. I will check if there is any changes as to the " voip.freephoneline.ca " server in the morning.

Sunday morning I adjusted my server back to " voip.freephoneline.ca " and registration was successfully. All is seems to be back to normal on my end.

Update 1200hrs - After changing back to voip.freephoneline.ca registration is successful, but incoming calls go to voicemail. I changed back to voip2.freephoneline.ca, registration successfully and INCOMING calls work.

I will submit a ticket for them to check things out. I have 3 other family FPL users which experience the same problem.

1215hrs - Ticket submitted to support to check on the problem.

I can't reproduce this on one account I just checked. I've got a bunch of other FPL accounts I can check on voip.freephoneline.ca
I'll take a look at another.

In the meantime, please follow these steps in the order listed:

1) Change to a different high random local sip port in your ATA between 30000 and 60000.
Navigate to Line 1 (or whatever you're using for FPL)-->SIP settings, change SIP Port to a new random number between 30000 and 60000.
Do not use the same random SIP port for any other Line. Always choose a different random local SIP port for each FPL account you're using.

2) A. Turn off both router and ATA. B. Turn on router. Wait for router to be fully up and transmitting data first. C. Turn on ATA (router needs to be completely up and running first).

3) Test again with an incoming call

If that works, a corrupted NAT association developed between your router and ATA.

If that doesn't work for you, let me know, and I'll try reaching out. Thanks.

So why is it happening to 2 other different FPL accounts at different locations using the same server settings?

Voip1 not working

voip1.freephoneline is not working properly, cannot receive calls. Tried voip2 works fine. Two different ATAs connected directly to internet, same problem.

NAT corruption can develop due to UDP timeout settings in routers without users doing anything.

The problem can occur when a new IP lease is issued in the modem, and that is not uncommon.

Also, if FPL rebooted their voip.freephoneline.ca server or changed something, then doing so may require some users to reboot gear or change local SIP ports to refresh NAT associations.

Using voip.freephoneline.ca. . .

I can't reproduce this on two FPL accounts so far at two different locations.

I can't reproduce this using FPL to FPL calls.

I can't reproduce this using regular mobility calls to FPL calls.

I will try a third FPL account at a different location.

Do let me know if that doesn't work for you, please. Thanks.

I can't reproduce this on three different FPL accounts registered on voip.freephoneline.ca

Two accounts are at different addresses in Ontario.
The third account is in B.C.

I can keep testing with more accounts, but these are accounts I configured, personally, for others, using third party router firmware (UDP timeout) settings that I also configured for them.
I'm unsure that I'm going to encounter this issue without more information that would allow me to reproduce it.

There could be an issue with voip.freephoneline.ca, but I'm not encountering it at the moment.

When this situation occurs, the first thing to do is try changing to a new random (between 30000 and 60000, for example) local sip port in the ATA. Then reboot the ATA.

If that works, a corrupted NAT association developed between your router and the ATA.

If that doesn't work, then the user can try switching servers. If switching server works, the user then needs to consider whether the original server banned the user's IP address temporarily.

Well, situation is no different. Changed the sip port, set server to the voip.freephoneline.ca, disconnected ATA, reboot router (waited till it settled) applied power to ATA, ATA registered successfully and incoming calls go directly to voicemail.

No change.

I've tried contacting someone. I'll update this thread if I get a response. I'm not sure that I will receive one on a Sunday.

In the meantime, users encountering this issue should try voip2.freephoneline.ca or voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060 instead.

Thanks.

Thanks...as I had indicated with my 1st post I had submitted a ticket, I saw it was successfully (web portal screen) submitted but as in the past I use to get an email to that effect but I guess the ticket system perhaps has changed.

I'm reaching out in a different manner. Anyway, I'll update the thread if I hear back. I'm not sure I will on a Sunday.

FYI, I have have the same issue. I switched to voip2 and although the calls don't go straight to voicemail, if I pick up the call, it hangs up after 2 seconds. Will try voip4 and report back.

Ok, tried voip4 and still hung up. Restarted both router and ATA and now everything works on voip4.

Okay, I tested again, right now, and I am getting incoming calls going to voicemail on voip.freephoneline.ca on one account.

For those wanting an email update about the issue involving voip.freephoneline.ca, you can submit a ticket at https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

But it's probably simpler to follow this thread.

I got a reply back on a Sunday, which is pretty great.

And I tested to make sure that the problem is now resolved. It is.

For those experiencing issues still,

1) change local SIP Port (or X_UserAgentPort in Obihai ATAs) to a new random number between 30000 and 60000.

Thanks, you resolved my issue.

SIP change didn't work at first when I followed your 3 steps. But, when I changed the Proxy to voip2.freephoneline.ca, my incoming calls was working again.

Regards,

Hi,

voip.freephoneline.ca is working as of 4 p.m. EST. on April 11th.

Previously, it was not working for everyone.
