want to run softclient

Hi:

Thanks. I also want to run my own softclient.

Do I understand correctly that the ONLY softclient Fongo permits is their own?
I want to run my own softclient, not Fongo's.

Thanks

You can use Freephoneline's VoIP unlock key with whatever unlocked device or app that supports SIP protocol.

However, it's not possible to register the exact same FPL account simultaneously on more than one device or sip app. Note that only one registration per FPL account is allowed at any time. An ATA is one registration. A SIP app is another.

When there are multiple devices/softphones/lines using the same account, only the most recent registration is valid. The previous device will lose registration, and, consequently, incoming calls will not work on it. This is especially important to consider if someone else is using your SIP credentials (username and password) that are found after logging in at https://www.freephoneline.ca/showSipSettings or if you're trying to register your FPL account with a smartphone SIP app or with another device. Registration is required for incoming calls. It is not required for outgoing calls. A more significant concern, though, is that multiple registration attempts can lead to temporary IP bans. The more devices being used with the exact same FPL account can make the temporary ban happen more quickly. Each time you reboot or restart your ATA or SIP app, it's attempting to register with Freephoneline again. Multiple registration attempts within a short period can result in temporary IP ban. Each time you reboot your ATA it's attempting to register with FPL's proxy server.

There used to be a workaround for just placing outbound calls without registration using Acrobits Groundwire. But FPL now has a 15 minute session timer that forces a Re-INVITE to occur at the 15 minute mark. If no ACK (acknowledgement) is received, the call will drop. Registration in Acrobits Groundwire is now required if you don't want the call to drop: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=19842&p=77652#p77652.

If you want two simultaneous FPL registrations, then you need to buy two VoIP unlock keys. Each key requires a different email address.

Freephoneline's VoIP unlock key was primarily intended to be used on ATAs as a home phone replacement, whereas Fongo Mobile was designed to be used on cellular phones. They are treated as separate services and do not share numbers across accounts.

Lastly, I strongly recommend reading through http://forum.fongo.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=20199#p78976 before jumping into anything.

Keep in mind that there is no free technical support for Freephoneline.

Ah, what a fantastically thorough answer.

It sounds like Fongo doesn't meet my needs.

Thanks so much.

Workarounds may exist for what you want to accomplish, such as using the Obihai's Auto Attendant to place outbound calls from another number or using Follow Me to forward incoming calls to another number, but I would need more information concerning your goals.
