My incoming calls on "voip.freephoneline.ca" this morning go directly to voicemail. I rebooted system and no change. I switched over to "voip2.freephoneline.ca" and incoming calls work fine. I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this issue. I will give it sometime and switch back later this morning to see if anything has changed.

Hi, I have the same problem as you, everything was working fine until today…. Outgoing call works but incoming call does not work, I played in the router and sometimes it worked, 1min later it does not work anymore, I tried several things sometimes it works and 2 minutes later it did not work anymore. Except that seeing your message I see that my configurations are not the problem, I just did like you and put the voip2 server in primary and for the moment it works yay. To be continued, please let me know

I'm not seeing a problem with voip.freephoneline.ca at the moment on one FPL account. I'll try some others.

There appears to have been an issue earlier today. I have no idea whether that's related.

Investigating - There is currently a widespread outage for connectivity to our two Data Centres in Kitchener and Toronto. We are working with the upstream providers to investigate.

I can reproduce the problem on another FPL account with voip.freephoneline.ca

I'll try contacting someone.

I'm told the Kitchener outage was, in fact, related to this problem.

voip.freephoneline.ca is working now.

Please restart your ATAs, IP Phones, and SIP apps.

Calls sometimes going straight to voicemail

Post by Erft »

This morning I got a call on my cell phone from someone who had tried calling my Freephoneline landline and their call had gone straight to voicemail. I tried calling my landline from my cell phone, and yes; the call went straight to voicemail. This was strange because the only thing I have done differently recently is that I've started forwarding my freephonline calls to my cell phone when I'm out.

Call forwarding was not enabled.
My landline didn't ring.
The incoming calls were logged as having connected, and lasting six seconds.

I was heading out so I set the freephoneline to forward to my cell phone, both phones to ring simultaneously.
When I came home 4 hours later, I called my freephoneline from my cell to test it. Both my phones rang and the call went straight to my cell voicemail (which makes sense as my cell phone doesn't have call waiting).
So I went to the computer, disabled call forwarding and tried calling my freephoneline again. This time it proceeded normally. The freephoneline rang until I picked it up. Voice went through normally. You'd never know there had been an issue.

People have told me before that their calls have gone straight to voicemail. It's one of the reasons I got myself a cheap cell phone with a cheap plan. There's no way to know when the calls to the freephoneline will go straight to voicemail with no ring. It can cause problems, though, and I have posted to this forum once before about this. I got settings advice, I acted on it, and I have not changed a thing since.
So why is this happening, and is there anything I can do to prevent it from happening again?

There’s nothing you can do to prevent service outages.

Thank goodness that's all it was. I have bookmarked the Fongo status page.
