Calling out & its not ringing-Trendnet 652BRP & LinksysPAP2T
I have a Linksys PAP2T and a Trendnet 652BRP Router and when I dial random phone numbers, it doesn't ring.

Do you hear a fast-busy signal when you're finished dialing? Do you have a dial-tone before you start dialing?

I hear a dial tone when I pick up the phone....dial the number...then complete silence...for at least 30 seconds. I checked my call log to see if the number dialed out and it did.

Few quick questions to get the ball rolling:
1) Has it ever worked before? If yes, has anything changed since then? Even something as small as a firmware update on a device.
2) Your own PAP2T, or one that was purchased from us back when we used to sell those models?
3) Was it configured according to the guide we have posted in our forums here?
4) Have you tried bypassing the router and/or setting up port forwarding?

1. Yes, I switched Routers. I now have a Trendnet 654BRP
2. My own PAP2T
3. Yes.
4. Yes, I bypassed the router so there is nothing wrong with the PAP2T. It was working with my old router.

In that case, I'd say to setup the Trendnet router to port forward UDP ports 5060-6061 and 10000-20000. It looks like the Trendnet is not properly routing the VOIP traffic, where as your old router did since you said it worked on that one.

Does anyone know how to open just the ports I need on the Trendnet 652BRP?

As you came to realize by now, the Trendnet firmware is pretty awful. Fortunately, you can upgrade to a much better DD-WRT firmware. You can get it here. http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database

Depends on hardware version of his 652BRP. v2 is not compatible "V1.xR same H/W as TEW- 632BRP, V2.xR completely different (not compatible)".bridonca wrote:As you came to realize by now, the Trendnet firmware is pretty awful. Thanks for all your help. I do have a v2.2R. I think I will return it and get a different one. Any recommendations?

I like my Linksys WRT54GL with firmware Tomato on it, but there's many more choices, especially if you want 'N' wireless.

Anything that can flash to DD-WRT is a great router. Expensive routers are surprisingly rather pointless. The performace certainly does not scale to the price.
I personally get most of my routers from the Salvation army, or Kijiji and flash them to DD-WRT. It amazes me how the stock firmware is still so buggy, and slow, or how a simple firmware flash to DD-WRT makes someone's trash into an absolute treasure!

Re: Calling out & its not ringing-Trendnet 652BRP & LinksysP
Hi. Some TrendNet routers are crap when it comes to working with the PAP2's, and the 652BRP and the 632BRP, but their 431BRP and the 432BRP (G) are amazing, right out of the box. After many, many days reflashing and configuring the 652BRP and the 632BRP would not consistently work with the PAP2's at all. Replacing them with a NetGear WNR854T ($20 from TigerDirect.ca refurbished) , or a TrendNet 431BRP and the 432BRP ($30-40 new from many sources), and these routers work fantastic with their latest firmware. Another 2 excellent units are the TP-Link TD-8816 (adsl modem, router, and single port switch), or the TD-8840T (adsl modem, router, and 4-port switch) and an external wireless router setup as a WAP and you've got a solid network & VOIP installation! PM me if you need more info.
