Can't connect to login server

Post by boristod »

Hi guys, for the last two days my phone is not working. I have a PAP with two lines... the other one is working just fine, but this one works for 5 minutes, then the phone dies again and I see "Can't connect to login server", then it comes back alive for another 5 minutes and dies again. Most of the time it's down though... any idea what happened to the server? If I use the software version it works just fine... I'm able to ping the server and it seems to be responsive, but my Linksys only occasionally connects to it. I haven't changed my settings and they worked for months without any issues. I checked them again and they all seem to be fine.

Anyone experiencing this with FPL? Any words of advice?
Thanks,
Boris

I can't figure out what's wrong... I haven't heard from anyone yet, so I guess it's a problem on my side... or my ISP.

I still have no access to the server and I realized that the pings are not very successful. See below:

Code: Select all

Pinging voip.freephoneline.ca [208.65.240.142] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 208.65.240.142: bytes=32 time=181ms TTL=58
Reply from 208.65.240.142: bytes=32 time=102ms TTL=58
Request timed out.
Reply from 208.65.240.142: bytes=32 time=69ms TTL=58

Ping statistics for 208.65.240.142:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 3, Lost = 1 (25% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 69ms, Maximum = 181ms, Average = 117ms

C:>ping voip.freephoneline.ca

Pinging voip.freephoneline.ca [208.65.240.142] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 208.65.240.142: bytes=32 time=155ms TTL=58
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Reply from 208.65.240.142: bytes=32 time=95ms TTL=58

Ping statistics for 208.65.240.142:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 2, Lost = 2 (50% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 95ms, Maximum = 155ms, Average = 125ms
[/b]

What could be the possible reason for that? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Your second line that you mention works well, is it connected to Freephoneline as well, or another provider? If another provider, what is it, and which port is it using to reach your ATA?

Your ping statistics are interesting. First, three packets dropped out of only eight sent is not good news at all. It should be zero packets dropped out of... thousands.

Secondly, the delay indicated seems a bit high. I know I'm practically sitting on their server so 28ms is unusually low, but typically people report ping averages between 30 and 60 with freephoneline's server. Now your delays go up to 180ms, which is a LOT when dealing with voice traffic. If it was stable at this value you could still have a normal conversation (delay similar to cellphones), but the wild variations (called jitter) make it impossible for codecs to maintain speech synchronization.

So the short answer: I think you indeed have a connectivity problem with them...

btw if you want to ping for longer periods, add "-t" like: ping -t voip.freephoneline.ca It'll ping until you stop with CTRL-C on the keyboard.

No timeout and cannot connect

Post by mek11 »

Switched ISP's yesterday and at first my PAP2T connected fine the first 2 times, after another IP change it refused to connect with the "Can't connect to login server" error.
So I tried the FPL software for Windows, connected and placed calls fine, then I logged out and closed it, restarted my computer.
Then I go to my account details and it's showing "SIP Registration Status: Online" "User agent: FreePhoneLine 3.0.1.0", calling my number gives the busy sound.
Any ideas?

There are some users on Acanac that are also having issues.

After swapping out my PAP2T for a replacement, my issues seem to have been resolved. I used the easy provision method listed in the config setup section of the form to get up and running.

Hi guys, I actually fixed my issue. It was locally... my router did it apparently. After restarting the router the issue resolved.
I believe it's a problem of those DSL modems and routers that I'm using and sometimes they just clog the traffic.

Hope that helps you resolve your problem, at least temporarily.
Regards,
Boris
