Call Forward When Power/Internet Is Out
I am with Primus talkbroadband service (but planning on leaving soon) and they have a feature that if the power or internet goes down the calls are automatically sent to a number prescribed by me. This would be a very nice touch for FPL to have.
It's like if the call can't get to my ATA then it is just directed to my cell. Never any worries about missing calls.
Thanks for your time.

Re: Call Forward When Power/Internet Is Out
What about FOLLOW ME... if you can't be reached at your ATA it'll try ringing you ____ (cell phone?).
Follow Me: Log into your account on the web and the settings should be there.

Re: Call Forward When Power/Internet Is Out
The problem with follow me is that it works all the time, for instance you get a call from a solicitor and you don't want to answer it, with follow me on it will ring my house and my cell, that would get annoying.
Re: Call Forward When Power/Internet Is Out
Then pay your bills?? ok just joking but if you call screen at home, can't you just call screen on your cell?
I see what you'er saying and I admit I don't have a solution, but another idea:
- Ring your cell if unavailable for 5 seconds...
That way it'll ring your cell but only for 5 seconds. If your power goes out you'll know to have your phone close by anyways and you should be able to answer within 5 seconds. Otherwise, it'll just go to voicemail and won't keep bothering you.

Re: Call Forward When Power/Internet Is Out
I was about to post this suggestion myself. It would be great if call forward unavailable was separately configurable from call forward no answer. I'd rather have voice mail pick up when I don't answer, but if it's down, I want to ring straight through to the cell phone.

I will be sure to pass this suggestion along, it may require additional methods of aggregation; thank you for the suggestion.

Re: Call Forward When Power/Internet Is Out
+1 on this feature
Looking for a way to setup VM to work if I do no answer but ring another number if I loose connection. For now I can use an anwsering machine but it loses messages if we have a black out.
For now I use an answering machine set Seconds until voicemail: 26 to allow the answering machine to pickup first, and Follow me Seconds as needed to ring to my Cell VM is I do not answer.
An ' email on loss of connection after x minutes' option could compliment this feature

Re: Call Forward When Power/Internet Is Out
+1 on this feature from me too.
Also to note, I just got my ATA working (after my primus number was ported) and had seen "Call Forward When Unavailable will only forward calls when you are offline." in the FollowMe settings page and figured this would work as my Primus setup did - but alas, this quoted line lead me astray as I now know that the FollowMe feature isn't what I thought it would be.
Honestly, this line puts a bad taste in my mouth more then the actual feature not being available.

Re: Call Forward When Power/Internet Is Out
Hi Johnboykw,
Is it possible that there may be another voicemail picking up before your number can be forwarded to another number when unavailable? The Followme Feature should work when you are not at home or able to take the call, but it has to be set to rings that will prevent the voicemail from picking up before the call can be transferred. You quoted the "call forward when unavailable will only forward calls when you are offline," Where did you find this so I can investigate further? Thank you

Re: Call Forward When Power/Internet Is Out
I'm sure you did not give this a test, for if you did you would have found out that the note in the FollowMe settings is incorrect (and would have been another discussion). Having said that, FPL should rewrite the footnote for the FollowMe settings in the FPL account portal.johnboykw wrote:+1 on this feature from me too.

The call forward works whenever the call is not answered, either because the ATA was not answered or is offline.

Re: Call Forward When Power/Internet Is Out
On second thought, you may have been hoping that the call forward works ONLY if the ATA is out-of-service, ala-Primus TBB. It would have been nice...but no. Primus labeled it as Call Forward when OOS (if I remember correctly as I ditched Primus more than a year now after about 5 years with them) so it is expected to work only when the ATA is OOS!cu2o2o2 wrote:I'm sure you did not give this a test, for if you did you would have found out that the note in the FollowMe settings is incorrect (and would have been another discussion). You're second thought is correct. I did test this actually and the results are as follows:
Situation 1: ATA off, FollowMe set to cell phone (3 rings), voice mail set to 4 rings. With this, the feature works as I thought it would, as the ATA is off.
Situation 2: ATA on, same settings as above. With this, FPL line rings 4 times, then rings the cell phone, but the phone I was calling from was that same cell phone that the FPL is forwarded to, so my cell phone voice picked up right away and that's where the call terminates. I could have tried calling from a 3rd non-related line, but I know the result would be "FPL line rings 4 times, then rings cell phone 3 times, then goes back to FPL voicemail". Unfortunately, this is not the functionality I was looking for.
Situation 3: ATA on, FollowMe turned off - VM set to 4 rings. Works as expected per this setting.
I guess my complaint could have been more clear (that the "offline" comment lead me to believe that with the ATA offline, it would forward to the specified number and that while the ATA was "online", this forwarding would not occur). But by the same token, the line I quoted from FPL's site (Lauren, it's on the FollowMe setting page with two asterisks in front of it), should be a little more explicit in reference to that mode when the ATA is online.
It's not a deal breaker, but just really annoying that the documentation on the settings page for FollowMe isn't 100% clear.

Re: Call Forward When Power/Internet Is Out
+1 for this feature as well.
I too thought that the FollowMe when unavailable setting would forward calls to me only when FPL was down or my power was out but I tested it on the weekend and it forwards to my cell phone even when I am up and running. I was under the belief that it worked similar to Primus Talkbroadband's follow me feature.

Re: Call Forward When Power/Internet Is Out
The frustrating part is that calls also forward if you are dialing out. Say for example you are talking with someone on a cell and the call drops, you then call them back, at the same time they also call you back in this case their call will forward to your follow me number. This is VERY FRUSTRATING

Re: Call Forward When Power/Internet Is Out
When entering the “forward to” number, remember to dial 1 and/or the area code before the number if necessary to place the call. When creating your list, enter the area code plus the 7-digit number for both local and long distance numbers.

Re: Call Forward When Power/Internet Is Out
Funny I was thinking the same thing, I'd like to be able to distiguish between call forward when available and when my voice mail kicks in. I've had quite a few instances as of late where i call home or someone calls me and all they get is dead air then fast busy, i check the ATA and it shows not registered. Why can't the calls default to another number when this happens. I'd like to see this as a seperate setting that kicks in whenever the ATA loses connectivity.

Sounds more like ports are blocked if its not registering, if you need any help to unblock your ports have a look here http://forum.fongo.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7926qdi40 wrote:i check the ATA and it shows not registered.

The Followme Feature should work when you are not at home or able to take the call, but it has to be set to rings that will prevent the voicemail from picking up before the call can be transferred.
