Jake, I only want two numbers, the current FPL number and the Bell landline number.

My understand is these are the steps:
1) create a new account to get a new FPL number
2) request landline number transfer
3) upon transfer complete, the new FPL number will be replaced with the landline number, the new FPL number will no longer available to the account.
4) buy a VoIP key

The Linksys PAP2T has two lines with independent setup. Both lines will be connected to the PAP2T without any restrictions.

Yep that all looks right.

You can buy the unlock key at any time, it will transfer to your ported number when that completes. All you will need to do is change the username inside your ATA.

Your ATA should be able to cope with 2 numbers, my PAP2T does. If it is something you are going to do anyway, it might be worth buying the unlock key and getting it all set up on the temporary FPL number to make sure everything is OK so there won't be any hangups once your Bell number ports.

Hope this helps.

I'm new to FPL. Currently, I'm using ItalkBB and would like to switch to FPL once the contract is ended next month.
From the posting I read, I can still use my ATA from ItalkBB (they use Linksys 2102) and transfer my number to FPL ($25 fee).

In addition to that, I also need to buy the Unlock Key $79.95. Am I correct?
Thanks.

If the ATA device is unlocked, you can use it for FPL. You are correct in that you have to pay $80 for the unlock code, and then $25 to port over. After that, no more fees!

Generally if you can get into it and change the settings, then it is unlocked.
Locked ATAs will either not allow you to log into the admin side of things to change anything, or will keep reverting back to their defaults if you do change anything.

Hi there,
I've been with fpl since I purchased the unlocking key in 2010. The whole family just relocated to GTA from BC recently. Am I able to purchase a second key at a discount? Or how much is the fee to change my number? I am considering the first option since I still have friends in BC who like to contact the old number.

Thanks.

What do you mean by 1 line? Do you mean you only have one telephone connected to the ATA?

Or do you have a telephone that supports two lines?

The call waiting signal is sent to your OBi200's phone port. Beyond that, the rest is up to (handled by) your phone and has nothing to do with your ATA nor FPL.

if someone calls me when i'm already on the phone it goes directly to my voicemail.

It shouldn't unless you have Rings Before Voicemail set to 1 in your FPL account portal--or unless you call waiting disabled in your ATA.

Also Call Waiting won't work if Follow Me is enabled due to the 2 channel limit being exceeded.
But in that case, you won't get voicemail. The caller will get a message stating that the user is unreachable at this time.

1 a. Login at https://www.freephoneline.ca/voicemailSettings
b. Check to ensure "Rings before voicemail" is set to something greater than 1. (ex. try "4").
c. Login at https://www.freephoneline.ca/followMeSettings. Disable Follow Me.

2) If you used the Obitalk web portal (http://www.obitalk.com) to configure your ATA, keep in mind that you must continue using it to configure your ATA. Otherwise whatever settings you change will eventually be overwritten by what you previously entered at obitalk.com anyway. If you wish to disable this behaviour, dial ***1. Enter that IP address into a web browser. Navigate to System Management-->OBiTalk Provisioning-->select Disabled for the method. Save. Reboot ATA. Now obitalk.com won't overwrite whatever changes you make via the device's interface (via IP address).

Pick one method (obitalk.com) or the other (IP address of device) for changing device settings. But do not use both methods.

Take a look at this picture for reference: http://i.imgur.com/xwyqgRE.jpg.

That grey cog wheel with the "E" is for the expert configuration menu.

It shows when logging in at http://www.obitalk.com, selecting "Edit Profile" on the left, then scrolling down
under "Advanced Options" and finally selecting "Enable OBi Expert Entry from Dashboard."

3) Navigate to Physical Interfaces-->PHONE Port-->Calling Features

a) Ensure that CallWaitingEnable is checked (or enabled) under the Value column

b) Ensure that CallWaitingCallerIDEnable is checked or enabled under the Value column

4) Navigate to Voice Services-->SP Service where you configured FPL-->Calling Features-->MaxSessions

MaxSessions needs to be 2.

Is there a way to setup my ata for ringing on the second line ?

Again, the call waiting signal is sent to your OBi200's phone port. Beyond that, the rest is up to (handled by) your phone and has nothing to do with FPL nor your ATA, unless you're configuring it as a mini-PBX, which I doubt: https://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=4944.0

Re: Freephoneline - $79.95* - things you need to know

Postby nunanie » 01/13/2017

On January 7th I registered with FreePhoneLine to have my 2 Bell numbers ported over. I paid the $79.95 only for Line #1 for the Unlock Key but not for Line #2. On Monday, Jan 9th I sent an email to "porting@FreePhoneLine but so far have not heard back from them.

My question is #1 - Am I required to pay the $79.95 for Line #2? If they answer is "yes" then how do I do that without having to pay the $25 again for a porting request? I logged onto FPL Online Store and you can't get past the $25 Porting billing and I've already paid for the porting.

Question #2 - I received an email on Tuesday, Jan 10 that Line #2 will be ported over as of Jan 16 but no notification at all on Line #1. Should I be worried?

Question #3 - I did not receive a FPL phone number for Line #2 (because I didn't pay the $80 I'm thinking?) Do I need a FPL number for Line #2

I apologize for all the questions, but my issues are not specifically covered in the FAQ's

It's January 20 today - and this post was just approved by the moderator. In the meantime I was able to contact Fongo support (finally) and they have resolved my issues. As a new Customer it becomes very confusing to go through all the FAQ's when they are not specific to my questions. Why can't Fongo do a list of ToDo's for new customers at the very start so that some of these issues are covered in one place? If you don't know the questions how can you find the answers?

Postby sncbhle18 » 01/23/2017

A few weeks ago, I bought the Cisco SPA122 voip ATA at my local Canada Computers store. Next, I bought the VOIP unlock key for my FreePhoneLine just to test out with the device. Although the initial configuration was easy, I only had minor problems (but not too serious) on configuring the service. I was able to solve these problems mostly by myself.

After doing a bit of testing and calling different numbers (i.e. testing the service out on my mobile (cell) phone, home phone, etc.), I encountered no problems. Now, I'm planning to move my Bell phone number into the FreePhoneLine service and that is very challenging. Although I haven't done this right away (and the fact that my Bell service contract has finally ended and we're switching to Rogers - but leaving the Bell Home Phone put - just to transfer the Bell number into the FPL service), I wonder what considerations should I know when porting my Bell number into the FreePhoneLine service?

Feel free to private message me in regards to this matter.

I'm a little confused about a couple things. I have an Obi202 on order so I would be going with FPL but FPL and Fongo are basically the same company (sister companies) but FPL doesn't show my town as one of the places it services but Fongo does. Also Fongo says it can port my number but I'm not sure with FPL since I'd have to register first. My postal code is N7A-1X8

Thanks

Smart choice. That is the most powerful ATA intended for residential use due to its powerful call routing abilities.
The OBi202 FPL setup guide can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=18805&start=25#p74882.
Regardless of whether you choose FPL, I recommend reading the first four pages of that PDF guide.

And I would also recommend looking at the jitter/ping test described on page 18 and the top of page 19.

If you want to use your OBi202 with FPL, you would need to buy a VoIP unlock key for $79.95+tax, after registering and logging in at
https://www.freephoneline.ca/login?page ... ToPurchase.

but FPL and Fongo are basically the same company (sister companies) but FPL doesn't show my town as one of the places it services.

What do you mean by "service"?
https://www.freephoneline.ca/cityListing
Goderich is listed as a free calling area.

FPL just doesn't provide free phone numbers in Goderich: https://www.freephoneline.ca/phoneNumber.

But you can port a Goderich phone number into FPL for an additional $25+tax: https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/arti ... 66#ontario.
FPL is considered part of the "Fongo network." If you can port a phone number into Fongo Home Phone or Fongo Mobile, the number can also be ported into Freephoneline.

However, you won't know for sure that you can port your specific Goderich phone number into FPL without submitting a ticket and asking.

Here's some additional information on porting: https://support.freephoneline.ca/hc/en- ... r-porting-.

but Fongo does

Where?
https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/arti ... s-#ontario

Goderich isn't listed.

Also Fongo says it can port my number but I'm not sure with FPL since I'd have to register first.

Registering is free, as is using the desktop app, so why not try registering? There's nothing to lose. You can test Freephoneline for free by using the desktop app:
https://www.freephoneline.ca/downloadDesktopApplication.

As for your porting question, you're going to need a submit a ticket if you want an official answer: https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new. For the issue type, select "VoIP Unlock key"-->"Porting Inquiry".
Provide them with the full phone number that you want to port when submitting the ticket.

For what it's worth, Freephoneline support staff is not obliged to respond on the forums or to technical support requests (for example, for device configuration issues).

Thanks for all the info. I actually did submit a ticket yesterday and Fongo said my number could be ported which was a big deal to me. I did know about the $80 unlock fee and the $25 port fee, plus the money I spent on the Obi, but I figure I'll make all that back in a few months at the most. I also have a battery backup so I plan to have my phone, modem, router and obi plugged into it in case of a power outage. I also have a cell if needed. No tech support doesn't bother me. I've found that unless your very luck and get someone with real computer knowledge all you really get are pre-made, canned answers that the tech reads from his computer. I also read about the in depth setup guides already made by other people so I wasn't to worried. The link to it is handy though, as is the jitter test.

Thanks. I don't have the Obi yet, its suppose to arrive today.

The one I linked to provides the proper settings to use with your ATA and FPL. My ATA also happens to be an OBi202.

Hello,

I am new to Fongo and looking for clarification on the best way to go about getting VoIP service. A friend recommended me this service and told me its a great way to bypass the telephone companies and save a ton of money on long distance calls. I usually call my family in south-america! I do not want to use my personal credit card when making payments online so I got myself a Pre-paid Mastercard. At first I dealt with Moneymart but the it took weeks for the card to work properly - the credit card number was always showing up as invalid when I would enter it online. It works in stores but online I was having issues. I'm using the same card with Fongo and I'm also having a few issues. I'm applying now with Bankeroo https://www.bankeroo.comand waiting to see what happens so that I can reload my pre-paid Card and try again.

Is there any other way to pay Fongo? Paypal? What about Transferwise. https://transferwise.com/ca/

By default, when you port out, your FPL account is closed. Yes, you would lose the $99. No, you can't get a new number.
If you submit a ticket and ask, support staff might make an exception, but I wouldn't count on it: https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.

I am fresh for the freephoneline.
I bought the SIP and paid for porting in my landline at the same time.
Should I wait for the porting confirmation email and then setup freephoneline?
The user name will be changed into my landline number or not?

It doesn't matter. You can configure your device now if you wish. Just be aware that your SIP username will change after porting is completed. In turn, you will need to update SIP username in your device after porting is completed.
