How long until port-in is effective?

Postby OmbyMasiaka » 03/10/2021

Hi Fongo gang,

I'm planning on porting in my current number to a Fongo mobile account over the coming weeks. In order to plan for timing, I would like to know how long it takes until my account is terminated with my current provider and ported to Fongo.

To be clear, I know Fongo says it takes 2-3 business days. But I need to know if I submit a request to Fongo at say 4pm today, how long does it take until I cannot use my sim with my current provider? Is it as soon as I submit the request, or the beggining of the next business day, end of following business day, etc.

I'm sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but because of my work, I need to time the port-in quite precisely.

Thanks in advance!

In my experience, the previous service always continues to work until porting has been completed.
That holds true regardless of whether someone is porting into Bell, Telus, Rogers, Fongo Mobile, etc.
Consequently, it has never mattered to me how long porting takes to complete, regardless of the service I'm using.

However, this is a caveat worth noting: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=19858&p=77678#p77678.
Fibernetics is the parent company of Fongo Mobile and also the carrier.

Thank you for responding. I did submit a ticket but all they could tell me is that my SIM will stop working once port-in is complete.

There's nothing further I can add, unfortunately, and, given the response you received, I doubt you can obtain additional information until after a porting request is initiated.

On most ports, you usually do not lose service for any more than a half hour. Any other time, either the old device, or eventually Fongo will be able to receive call. But yeah, you are not going to get an exact time line on when it will happen. That is the nature of porting, unfortunately.
