SPA2102 - LED Blinking Red continuosly

Postby GiJoeBlack » 02/27/2022

Greetings

I had been experiencing intermittent issues with my ATA 2102 going Red LED and then would fix it self after few reboots. It seems it has reached to a point of no return and is now on continuous red blink [no green at all]. I have attempted recovery to no luck. I was hoping if folks have any recommendations to revive the hardware or I should being to look for a diff ATA device. If so, if someone can recommend a reliable replacement ATA device to help continue using my freephone line line.

Thank you in advance

Joe.

I used to be able to locate an official source for LED light patterns, but because the ATA is discontinued, it's become harder.

Unfortunately, the light pattern indicates the ATA is defective.

I was hoping if folks have any recommendations to revive the hardware

Other than trying a different power supply/adapter, I don't. I feel that would be useful to try first, provided you don't have to buy one in order to test, before buying something new.

If so, if someone can recommend a reliable replacement ATA device to help continue using my freephone line line.

I feel most ATAs intended for residential use are made as cheaply as possible (for profit), which doesn't bode well for longevity.
It is important to keep devices in cool areas and to not block airflow or vents. Also, a UPS is a good idea.

In terms of features, for residential usage with Freephoneline, the most powerful ATAs are from Obihai. The OBi2xx series has been discontinued.
However, the OBi3xx series still exists. The main difference between the two is that OBi3xx does not support Google Voice using official firmware.
Unfortunately, OBi302 isn't cheap in Canada. OBi302 can be found at https://www.acrovoice.ca/obistore/. They're an official retailer. Another is Newegg Canada, but
I don't see that model available for sale from them currently.
This PDF guide, located at the bottom of the first post, will work: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=18805.

By the way, if you're interested, the engineering team that designed the SPA2102 series left and eventually started designing Obihai ATAs. They are the true successors of your older ATA and not the newer Cisco SPA series.

Pianoguy wrote:The PAP/SPA family of ATAs were an industry standard for many years until Linksys EOL'd them in 2012. Did you know that not only were Sipura and Obihai ATAs designed by the same engineers, those engineers also invented the ATA at Komodo technology 15+ years ago? OBi ATAs are really the latest versions of the PAP/SPA ATAs - granted, with more/better call routing features, better hardware, and better audio quality - but the hundreds of thousands of people who used PAP/SPA ATAs before Obihai went on the market would likely not call a genuine PAP/SPA garbage (with the possible exception of the SPA3xxx).

Grandstream ATAs are also a popular choice (and cheaper). I would choose them for FPL before Cisco ATAs due to Grandstream having a random SIP/RTP port option, which can be helpful when rebooting the ATA to try to resolve a corrupted NAT association has developed between the user's router and ATA as a result of a UDP timeout issue.

These are just my opinions. You are, of course, free to do whatever you want (I don't care what people buy). The bottom line is most unlocked ATAs should work with FPL.

Hello @Liptonbrisk

Thank you so much for your prompt response and responding to my queries. Yes based on the current LED pattern, as I mentioned, seems to be point of no return. This definitely provides me with enough options. Definitely worth noting that Obihai would be a preferred way but looking at the cost they are pricey and might alienate towards Grand stream - slightly cheaper.

I will update how it pans out for me.

Thank you so much again.

You're welcome! Again, it might be worth trying another power adapter.

Well, if you have to pay for one, then it makes more sense to me to just use that money towards a new ATA. Anyway, happy hunting!

Yeh. Its hard to find and might not be worth if that still did not work. I'm considering Grandstream HT801/HT802. I'm not seeing configuration guide on the forum. Would it be similar or identical to HT701/702?

Thank you again.

Yes, those setting are similar.

There's also viewtopic.php?f=15&t=20252#p79162.
I suggest reading through my comments in that thread.
