[Resolved] Incoming calls stopped working of late.

Postby xriddle » 07/10/2022

Hi I have an obihai that has been working for many years but maybe 2 weeks ago incoming calls stopped working. I tried all the servers and port forwarding as well but still no luck. Outgoing works fine but when some calls me they get VM prompt after 4-5 rings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The section listed in point 1 below covers what I'm about to mention, but (provided my ATA is registered and no other device/person/hacker is using my FPL account at the same time) if the caller hears multiple rings when dialing my number, the first thing I would check is to ensure the ringer on my phone isn't silenced. Also, make sure that your FPL account has Follow Me disabled while testing.

a. Dial ***1. Enter the IP address you hear into a web browser. Log into your OBi202.
Navigate to Status-->Call History.

Are the inbound calls listed? If so, they're reaching your ATA.

If you don't see the incoming calls listed, then they're not reaching the ATA.

b. While the incoming call is ringing, navigate to Status-->Call Status.
Do you see the call? If so, the incoming call is reaching the ATA.

c. Are the incoming calls reaching FPL? They should be if the callers hear ringing and then reach FPL's voicemail system. Login at https://www.freephoneline.ca/callLogs to check.

For what it's worth, when there are multiple devices/softphones/SPs (on an Obihai ATA) using the same FPL account, only the most recent registration is valid. The previously registered device will lose registration, and, consequently, incoming calls will not ring on it. This is especially important to consider if someone else is using your SIP credentials (username and password) that are found after logging in at https://www.freephoneline.ca/showSipSettings or if you're trying to register your FPL account with a smartphone SIP app (or FPL desktop app) or with another device. Registration is required for incoming calls. It is not required for outgoing calls. Only one registration per FPL account is allowed at any time. A single line on an ATA is one registration. A SIP app is another. Similarly, registering two SPs, simultaneously, on an Obihai ATA with the same FPL account is not permitted.

Port forwarding is a potential security risk and should be avoided unless you have no other choice.

1. Ensure that your ATA is configured properly (which means not having only used Obitalk's preconfigured Freephoneline profile) using the PDF guide located at the bottom of the first post from viewtopic.php?f=15&t=18805#p73839 (pages 6 and 7 explain why using Obitalk's preconfigured FPL profile is not advisable). Then read and follow the steps slowly, step by step, down the list in the section from pages 40 to 42 entitled "Are you getting one way audio issues with an OBi200/202 and Freephoneline? Are incoming calls not ringing? Can you not hear one side of the conversation (you can hear the caller, but the caller can't hear you or vice
versa)?" Here is the direct link to the PDF guide: download/file.php?id=2164.
