Porting in / parking 10 + numbers - should I use Fongo FPL?

Postby torontonumbers » 08/12/2022

Newbie, tired of paying the big 3 phone companies monthly fees to park my numbers.

I'm looking to port in 10+ numbers and park them for a longer period.

I am confused on the difference between Fongo and FPL.
I downloaded the app and FPL PC app.

I wouldn't need to make calls or use the numbers at all simply park them. (if the option was there would be okay but not necessary)

Can either handle multiple numbers at one time? Under 1 account?

Are both $25 to port in and free to port out? I read somewhere in the forums that Fongo is $20 to port in but also said $25 to port out.
Do both take the same amount of time to port out if needed in the future.

thanks

Then you're going to need 10+ different email addresses, unless you use the Gmail trick: https://www.lifewire.com/easy-gmail-add ... ks-1616186. Possibly other email services can do the same thing, but I'm only aware of Gmail at the moment and haven't bothered looking.

To use Freephoneline on anything other than the Freephoneline PC desktop app (ATA, IP Phone, SIP app), you must pay $119.95+tax (edit, price increased) for a VoIP unlock key.
With the VoIP unlock key, you aren't restricted to an app. Freephoneline was originally intended as a home phone replacement and does not support SMS.

Fongo Mobile works on anything that can run the Fongo Mobile app. Probably the most common usage is on smartphones and tablets. Fongo Mobile supports SMS with this caveat concerning SMS short codes: https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/arti ... ifications.

I suspect Fongo Mobile makes more sense for you to use since it's easier for most people, but it's your choice.

No. One number per account (which is based on email address) is permitted.

Are both $25 to port in and free to port out?

Yes

For porting in, visit https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/arti ... ngo-Mobile.

The number you want to port in must be from one of these locations: https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/articles/212436086.

I read somewhere in the forums that Fongo is $20 to port in but also said $25 to port out.

No.

It's $25+tax per number to port in. Porting out is free, given that in your usage you would have already paid $25+tax per number to port in.
Visit https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/arti ... -port-out-.

Do both take the same amount of time to port out if needed in the future.

All porting requests go to the same support team, so yes. The VoIP numbers are considered landlines when porting.
Please do not send me emails; I do not work for nor represent Freephoneline or Fongo. Post questions on the forums so that others may learn from responses or assist you. Thank you. If you have an issue with your account or have a billing issue, submit a ticket here: https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new. Visit http://status.fongo.com/ to check FPL/Fongo service status. Freephoneline setup guides can be found at viewforum.php?f=15.

Thanks for the quick reply and information.

Was hoping to have them all in one account rather then 10 accounts and different emails.
But I understand most ppl dont have that amount of phone numbers to port in.

Thanks again

I think you would be surprised about how many people have multiple Fongo/FPL numbers. I doubt many have 10 parked numbers like yourself though.

How they have set things up is that your login name is your email - hence why you will need a different email for each account.

I know adding or removing the . in a gmail account works as a different address. The + method might be better for you, if indeed Fongo allows it. You could just use the last 4 digits of the number as the bit after the + so you know what email is for what account.

Years ago, many years ago, the FPL system let you essential pick any number that was available. I managed to get a few nice numbers that I have kept onto since then. The best part, I haven't given Bell one dime of my money for years!
