Transfering my number out from here to a standard provider.
Hi
When I set up my Freephoneline account, or I guess, before I did, I made sure, and was promised that I would be able to take my number with me if I ever needed to. I am currently trying to do just that, but the company in my area that I am with says they don't think they can do it. That's Eastlink in Canada BTW.
Where do I go from here?
Thanks!
DM

Re: Transfering my number out from here to a standard provid
It's not Freephoneline that stopping you from transferring. Any limitation is subject to the conditions of the service provider/carrier you're transferring into. For example, if you have a 416 FPL number and if Eastlink doesn't let you port 416 landline numbers into Eastlink, that has nothing to do with FPL. The promise is FPL won't block you from transferring, and Fongo isn't.

Unless Eastlink claims Fongo is denying or blocking the porting request, the problem is a limitation with Eastlink.Darkmatter wrote:Area code is unchanged. Address is unchanged. Checking out your link now.

I doubt that's happening, but If it turns out that Fongo is blocking the port request, you can file a complaint with CCTS: https://www.ccts-cprst.ca/.
You will lose your VoIP unlock key (and any World Credits) automatically after porting has been successfully completed. Your FPL account will be closed.

Something about software? A "technicality" that wasn't mentioned when I came over to FFO...
This has been my number forever, and I only came over to FFO because I was told that I would have no problems if I ever wanted to transfer it. Not, no problems on our end, but they might say no, just "no problems."
Do you have a suggestion for me?
Edit: I just had a thought. Can Fongo just release it back into the general pool of numbers so Eastlink can grab it?

Re: Transfering my number out from here to a standard provid
That's pretty vague. I would try to discover the specific reason.Darkmatter wrote:Something about software?
Other than obtaining the specific reason why porting wasn't successful, I don't, unless you filled out a field on a form incorrectly.Do you have a suggestion for me?
People have transferred out from Fongo/FPL.This has been my number forever, and I only came over to FFO because I was told that I would have no problems if I ever wanted to transfer it.
I can't transfer my FPL number to providers that can't accept the transfer. That has nothing to do with Fongo--unless Fongo is blocking the port request.
Again, if Fongo is blocking the port request, you can file a complaint with CCTS: https://www.ccts-cprst.ca/.
What's FFO? I'm not sure what that is.A "technicality" that wasn't mentioned when I came over to FFO...
Do you mean FPL (FreePhoneLine)?
You would lose affiliation (your name and address would no longer be associated with that phone number; I guess most people would consider this ownership, but people don't own phone numbers) with that number, and then you wouldn't be able to port it anywhere. Also, I fail to see what difference that would make.I just had a thought. Can Fongo just release it back into the general pool of numbers so Eastlink can grab it?
The number would still be with Fibernetics (Fibernetics is the CLEC for Fongo/FPL), regardless. Nothing changes. All numbers are associated with a carrier.

Re: Transfering my number out from here to a standard provid
I guess the issue is how the number is now categorized. VOIP numbers being in their own category that differs from landlines. Also, why can't it be released back into the general pool of numbers? As in, not specifically with Fiberrnetics?
Also, nobody said anything to me about the number now being in a different category, or it being "with" Fibernetics. I know you're not saying they own the number, but if I can't transfer it, and they can't, or won't release it to a general pool of numbers, from a customers point of view, it's the same difference.
Yes I meant FPL. lol

Re: Transfering my number out from here to a standard provid
The category specified should be "landline" on the form you filled out.Darkmatter wrote:I guess the issue is how the number is now categorized. VOIP numbers being in their own category that differs from landlines.

All ported numbers must be associated with a carrier. Also, why can't it be released back into the general pool of numbers? As in, not specifically with Fiberrnetics?
The "pool" in this case, is owned by Fibernetics (but make sure to specify "Fongo" instead in the porting request and not "Fibernetics").
Otherwise, you can't port at all because the "re-seller name" can't be specified.
If I have a Bell landline number and cancel my Bell landline service, the number goes back into Bell's pool of numbers.
Now I can't port that number since my name and address are no longer associated with that number; I no longer have a service
agreement with Bell.
If I want to port away from Bell, the number needs to be linked to my name and address, and, moreover, I need
to be able to tell the other service provider that I'm porting from Bell.
One of the conditions of having my name and address associated with a phone number is that I'm using a number from a provider (or "re-seller" based on the above url) who is, basically, leasing it to me in the first place.
The "re-seller"/provider must be entered on the porting request form.

If you want suggestions from Fongo support staff, submit a ticket: https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Choose "Port-Out Inquiry" for the final issue type.
There's nothing further I can suggest (honestly, in general, I would work with the provider I'm porting into or CCTS, if I'm being blocked on purpose, rather than with the provider I'm porting away from, unless you desperately need a piece of information from your existing service provider that you don't already have; my comment has nothing to do with Fongo specifically).

Re: Transfering my number out from here to a standard provid
Thanks for all the info.
I know there are a LOT of phone numbers to pick from now that the area code is mandatory, but couldn't a very large exodus of customers porting their number leave a company with not enough numbers?
I know this would be a rare and extraordinary event, but that Rogers outage must have cause some losses, and here in Canada we've seen the downfall of "unsinkable" Canadian staples like Eaton's and Sears.
Was just a passing thought I had after reading that part of your post.
Thanks

Re: Transfering my number out from here to a standard provid
If people leave Rogers, that doesn't mean there's suddenly an increased demand for new numbers at Rogers (in your example, I would expect the opposite). Regardless, if Rogers were to run out of numbers (estimated to be less than six month inventory), then typically Rogers would be assigned new blocks of numbers. When customers don't port out, numbers can be recycled (by Rogers, in this case).Darkmatter wrote: I know there are a LOT of phone numbers to pick from now that the area code is mandatory, but couldn't a very large exodus of customers porting their number leave a company with not enough numbers?

The North American Numbering Plan (NANP) oversees the numbers that are assigned to Canada. When area codes run out of numbers, new area codes can be created. The Canadian Numbering Administration Consortium assigns a Canadian Numbering Administrator (CNA), which is currently COMsolve (https://www.comsolveinc.com/post/comsol ... trator-cna) to assign CO codes to various providers in Canada. In the example, 902-434-9213, 434 is the CO code.
https://freecarrierlookup.com/ tells me that 902-434-9213 is assigned to Maritime Telegraph and Telephone, Ltd. I would conclude that 902-434-xxxx block of numbers are assigned to Maritime Telegraph and Telephone.
If I want to use Fongo as an example, 647-875-xxxx (where x represents any digit) are all Fibernetics numbers. CO code 875 was assigned to Fibernetics. Fibernetics is the parent company and Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) for Freephoneline and Fongo.
