My understanding is that Freephoneline gets a small amount of money when someone calls one of their numbers. It is never going to make them rich, but it is revenue. SIP to SIP calls makes them no money, with potential to abuse and support issues, so it is less hassle for them just to disable it.
I already proposed Freephoneline charge something like $20 a year for extra VOIP features like that and others that do not cost much, but otherwise make no money for Freephone either. I believe Freephoneline has other priorities to deal with first.
I got impatient waiting, and instead decided to set up a PBX on my computer, and use Freephoneline in the areas it was good at, and other providers on their respective strengths.

Re: SIP URI possible with FPL?
Yeah i know but, Sip calls cost next to nothing (not even 1/100 of a cent), FPL only have to handle the SIP connection while RTP is done client to client. Forcing someone to get a pbx at home while i use my iPhone on the road is excessive. Also i paid my 50$ for sip settings. Again because outbound sip is allowed problem would not be abuse but spam. And if ingoing sip calls is something FPL don't want why admin is O.K. with posting how to configure a pbx for sip2sip? Private VoIP are for enterprise while home user like me need an Public VoiP PBX. Last: accepting incoming SIP calls On Asterisk need only ONE setting to change.... I think it's not something complicated to change!
Thanks by the way!

I agree with what you say, but I'll guess that Freephoneline Staff have their resources tied up in a lot of other things, perhaps regular maintenance, customer service complaints, strategic planning, etc... a lot of stuff we don't see but take a lot of time. I've seen companies grow, and though they're bigger, they're not always better because customer service, quality of service, etc decline. I like what FPL is doing so far and prefer a reliable service where you can still get these added features elsewhere if needed.
