Re: 5 - 90 Min into the call and drops out

Post by Joe B »

I am having the same problem, 2 - 90 minutes call is dropped.
ISP Cogeco
Linksys WRTG54
Linksys ATA using line 1 (how can I configure Line 2, is it easy?)

I have forwarded ports 5060-6061, 10,000, 13,000

Any suggestions?

Love the free phone just have to solve some small bugs.

Have you tried to set the NAT settings as outlined in the previous post?...... Might be worthwhile to try.

wrt54gl- running DDWRT
D-link with primus voip service
Linksys ATA : Line 1 is Acanac service
Line 2 is FreePhoneLIne.
Absolutely No Drop Calls with Acanac or Primus.

Tried Nat setting in the previous post and made two calls, one of them dropped. But never the less the kids are happy to get a dedicated phone :D

There are days that I just cant use my FPL. When I get disconnected, if I call back I get a fast busy signal... if the other party calls me the phone does not ring on my end. We need to wait a few minutes before being able to call again.

Yesterday I got disconnected 4 times in a row, all within 2-5 minutes into the call.

Have FPL for a year now and never had the dropped call issue.
The wife's been having dropped calls, duration of calls are about 10-15min then the line drops.

Havent changed anything on myside. Have 2DSL lines running in MLPPP Acanac and Teksavvy with PAP2. Would love to resolve this.

i'm going to try the solution that was posted a page back and see what happens. i dont think its a NAT issue, it's most likely a FPL issue.

It would be nice to get an official word from FPL about the issue. So far its mostly us (end users) debating if the problem is with the router, ISP, toaster oven, tire pressure or FPL. In the meantime we dont even know if FPL acknowledges the problem or is working on it.

We are exploring and investigating this on our end as well, but do not have anything official to say. So far we're finding that the right tweaking with customer's router/ATA is often resolving this, but aren't ruling out our end as half of the equation.
When we have something more official, you bet I'll let all you guys (and gals?) know.

update
so far (fingers crossed) its been working beautifully. not a dropped call or a complaint from the misses except the odd beep.(sounds like a kid playing with the phone's dial pad). the last time i played with it, i was touching that NAT stuff.

Thanks for posting this. Can anyone from FPL confirm that these settings are okay? Many of them are contradictory to what's listed in the setup instructions found here:

here's what my router settings for NAT and QoS
the QoS was turned off for two three weeks with no problems, but when i'm downloading torrent which is rare. i'll start getting choppy calls when the max upload speed is reached... i just noticed port 13000 - 20000 for FPL was turned off for some reason. but if the other ports aren't opened then i have a problem with incoming..

Image

I took the above pic from the previous poster.

A few days ago I changed a few settings on this page. At the bottom of the page I changed the following:

Handle VIA received = YES
Handle Via Rport = YES
insert Via received = YES
insert Via Rport = YES
substitutet via addr = NO <-- in the pic shows yes but mine is NO
send resp to src port = NO <-- in the pic shows yes but mine is NO

these were set to NO and the calls were being dropped. I changed them to YES and no drop calls. If nothing has changed from FPL side I suggest people changing these settings.

Funny that we are still debating what the issue might be with our routers, when people who are NOT even using a router are having the same issue.

The problem is every case is different, and every user is different. Several users have made changes suggested as a result of the participation in this thread and their problems have been solved.

As such every user must be treated on a case-by-case basis as per the merits of it's own situation.
Free phone line has a very large user base, and we're not all in here with this issue, I myself am not in here with the issue. I'm helping other with possible troubleshooting tips.

Router setups, ATA Settings, Registration Settings, Dial-Plans, Phones, and Line Voltage have all been seen to have an effect, at the same time there haven't been any obvious service interrupts at the Freephoneline side/in the FPL logs. Which makes pinpointing any possible issues at their end difficult.

As with anything computer related, there will be troubleshooting to perform. There are multiple points of failure, and all poitns must be observed and segregated.

well said
although this thread makes it seem like it's a common issue, I'd say less than 0.5% of our users ever report any problems like this. Our user base is bigger than most think.. much bigger.

And I just got disconnected again, after 20 seconds into the call. Unable to call again for another 5 minutes or so and cant receive calls either. After those 5 minutes or so, phone works fine until the next episode.

^^ Same here. For about 5-10 minutes the phone went dead (No dial tone, if dial tone- choppy quality, Incoming calls - Busy signal). After that, working beautifully again. I have my ATA on DMZ mode.

The probability of the problem being on the server side is quite high, I'd say.

I have exactly the same situation.
It is happening with calling Rogers, Bell, or anybody.
It is happening with income calls to.
I am using rogers high speed.
May area code is 416.
Using Pap 2.
It is happening recently, maybe last month.
Before that it was working well.

Mine has certainly been running a lot better, but been having dropped calls coming back again over the last week.

I did make t\all the chances suggested in the above threads, and that had seemed to have helped, but then the calls started dropping again, and of course during important calls to boot!

ya, FPL doesn't like important calls. so it drops them for you before you make a mistake.. FPL knows all.
