cannot install freephoneline on windows XP

Post by kd8341 »

Trying to install freephoneline on my windowsXP machine, but pops up a dialogue box complaining "Freephoneline requires an active internet connection for installation, please check your network configuration and proxy settings".

I do have active wireless Internet connection during installation and I can browse and download your website without problem. I have a few other network connections but all of them are disabled at the moment.

What should I check to correct this issue?

Thanks!

If you open a command prompt and type "ipconfig /all", what do you get in response? I'm curious.

I tried to run ipconfig /all and I get this response:

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : phub.net.cable.rogers.com

Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Saturday, October 23, 2010 9:12:35 PM

Will this 192.168.0.24 IP address cause the problem to connect freephoneline.ca?

Thanks!

A private address can definitely cause problems as you've indicated here. NAT and SIP doesn't play well together. You'll need to either forward ports or if you're using an OpenWRT like system (NOT DD-WRT!), you should be able to cheat NAT's headaches horrors by using the ip_nat_sip ALG instead of manually opening up the ports and doing all of the fun configuration.

That's not even close to the problem kd is having. Most of us have our SIP devices from behind out NAT and it works fine. Furthermore, we *all* have private adresses behind out NATs, as it's supposed to be that way, and will not cause any problems.

Kb's problem is installing the softphone on XP, which apparently can't see that his USB wireless adapter provides connectivity.

If you have other network adapters, perhaps you could try to disable them in the network section of the control panel (right click an adapter, select Disable. You can re-enable it later).

It might even be that the "network check" freephoneline does can't see your usb adapter, for some reason. Can you use a regular network cable plugged in to your modem/router instead? Perhaps doing that for the installation.

Also you can check your firewall and check if FLP ports is unblocked in windows xp .. you can also edit it to your liking by choosing the ports that you are using to enable.
