phone line with security system question

Post by magnum »

Hello

I have a question from a friend who was thinking of setting up a phone line but has a question regarding his security system.

His security system is a stand alone system(no outside company monitoring). The system requires the base to be plugged into a phone jack in order for the system to make an outgoing phone call when the system is tripped. Is there any way for have both the security system and his regular phone plugged into the same line.

The only option I came up with was using an ATA with at least two lines. One port would be his regular telephone line. He would then need to purchase another config file to connect the security system to the second line. Would this be his only option?

Thanks
laurent

Why use a 2nd phone line at all? He could use one ATA with one line, connect his home phone to it, and add the security system to the same line.

I guess a two line phone adaptor like this one would work?

Oh! Phone lines around here mean a whole phone service, with a number and all. What you want is splitters, yes sure you can plug many phones together with splitters/wiring. Check the load number not to exceed the capacity of the ATA, but generally, up to 4 devices will be fine.
