SIP with NetDial iTouch app dropping Outgoing calls

Post by XAnthonyX »

When I use Netdial with my Touch with the SIP number that was given to me, I can receive calls perfectly. However, if I make an outgoing call then the outgoing call lasts for roughly 30-50 seconds and then is automatically dropped (disconnected).

I have no idea what is causing this problem :S

Thanks.

It could be your router, we've seen it happen for people using other devices. Check to see if it has any RSTP or SIP or VOIP "automagical connection" thingy, and try to turn it off. You'll then need to forward your ports to your iPod Touch's wifi, however, in order to continue receiving calls.

Hi,

I looked at my router settings and I couldn't find anything. I'm using the Speedstream 5000 series router that Bell has provided me.

Can anyone with knowledge of this router assist me?

I might try to download another SIP client and see if it works.

Thank You.

You can easily try Fring and Nimbuzz, both free SIP clients (with limitations, but fine for the test).

Although I'm not sure about G729a codec support.

I tried Fring but it would freeze from time to time. I didn't try netbuz. I shelled out the $ and purchased Acrobits SIP software and I'm happy that I did since its working beautifully now.

I haven't downloaded the G729 codec. I don't know if I will.

the G729 codec is particularly efficient for low bandwidth use. For example, with Siphon, I can use my phone over 3G and it not only works perfectly, but there's no delays involved either. It's quite surprising actually.

Last test I did put it around 15 megabytes per hour.

I just had a 2 minutes call and it used 400KB, as reported by the iphone's usage page I had just reset before the call.

It's quite efficient.

Of course if you switch codec than this can jump significantly.
