setup voicemail how to- Help needed
Hello can someone tell me how to set up my voicemail for the first time when calling one of the access numbers? I get prompted to enter my account number and then a password.. I assume the account is the phone number 1+area code+number but what is the default password?

You'll want to use your softphone/ATA to access voicemail and setup your default password. Once that is set, then you can login to the remote voicemail numbers with it.

Oh for crying out loud! How in GOD's name do you access your voicemail from a normal phone?!!!
Don't just say "Call the access number in your city et voila!" What the *crap* is my password?!!!
Do I have to enter my phone number first?!! Do I need a '1' in front of it? I've set it up via the softphone a half a dozen times but it never lets me access my voicemail.
Someone please answer the following questions and post the replies in the FAQ.
1. Do all accounts come with free voicemail? (I hope this one's yes - otherwise I'm all upset over nothing.)
2. Is it *impossible* to initialize your voicemail via regular telephone?
3. Obviously when the message asks me to enter my password it cannot possibly know which account that password is for. How do I enter my account number? Is it my phone number?
4. I have searched for days looking for help. Is there a specific policy against releasing this information?
5. Am I an imbecile for not finding the answer elsewhere?
Thank you.

I have never used remote access for the voicemail, so this was a new exercise for me. This is what I did - step by step - the wrong and the right.Alidor wrote:1. Do all accounts come with free voicemail? (I hope this one's yes - otherwise I'm all upset over nothing.)

1. Looked up a local access number, for me it is 6133663001 on this page http://www.freephoneline.ca/vmAccessNumbers
2. Dialed the number and the voice asked me for my account number. I tried 1(my number) and (my number) but each time she told me that it was not an account number.
3. I remembered from earlier that I had some DTMF issues so I used another phone and tried again.
4. I dialed the access number and when prompted for my account number I entered 1(my number).
5. She then asked for my password. I knew I had not set one up yet, so I hung up. At least now I know my phone's DTMF tones are working and I had to enter 1613366xxxx for my account number and not just 613366xxxx.
6. I called the voicemail from my phone and set a password navigating to options 3>2>1 as indicated in the FAQ http://www.freephoneline.ca/faq#37
7. I then called back the access number, entered my account number - 1(my number) - and then my password.
8. I was then able to listen to my voicemail as I normally would from my house phone.
Is was actually lucky I did this as there was a message there I did not know about

To answer your question -
1. Yes.
2. No - I just did it.
3. I got asked for my account number first. Which number did you dial?
4. It is in their FAQ (a little bit anyway) so I doubt there is a policy against releasing information about it. http://www.freephoneline.ca/faq#36
5. Well on the access page it says to look here http://www.freephoneline.ca/faq#21 which is not right. They have obviously added in a few more FAQs and not updated the link as "Q.Can I disable the ads?" does not have much to do with voicemail.
It could be a DTMF problem for you also. If you are able to set up your voicemail from the softphone, try calling the access number from the softphone also. At least you will know the DTMF tones should not be a problem.

Ah... It worked just fine. I didn't know what to do during the silence - I kept messing things up. Now everything's perfect. Thanks so much - just got my message.
Account number = 1 + (phone number) silence... Password = (your password) silence... success!
Ahh... hit the pound key after the number to accelerate things a bit. Wish it would say so. Feeling much better. Sorry about the outburst just now.
