brentw - are you able to run your pingplotter program for the duration of a full ten minute call that experiences these troubles and then PM me the screenshot of the results?

If this can add to the analysis, in the case I've observed when calling voicemail, no packets were ever dropped. They were delayed briefly.

I'll add that if anyone has any logs that you feel may be helpful in illustrating this, feel free to send them my way. I've tested on several connections in town, including our office, and haven't been able to reproduce this. Right now I'm relying heavily on call logs and any other information I can gather from those of you who are experiencing this.

Would it be helpful if you actually called someone who has been having the problem? or have them call you?

I'm also having this problem, where there are intermittent short cuts in the sound and words are missing/jumpy. At first I thought that someone was just downloading/uploading on the computer at the same time, but even with the computer off I'm getting the same thing.

I'm on Bell with their modem/router and an Innomedia ATA

Well this is strange -
I set up my second number to go straight to music on hold when called, then called it from my main line. The sound did not jump a beat. To test it more I called the second number from another line at the same time and both calls sounded perfectly.

I know this only tests incoming audio, but when I dial the FPL answerphone (by dialing my own number) the ladies voice jumps all over the shop.

If anyone wants my second number to call in to test your/my quality (Steve?), please PM me and I will send it to you. No stalkers please  You won't get me, just my MOH. I will ask my better half is she is still hearing the drop outs or not, but maybe my only problem is when I call the answerphone which is how I was testing it up until now.

edit - I asked, and now she is not getting break ups in audio when she calls her sister (who is also on FPL), but when I call the FPL answerphone it still breaks up.

3 problems I am getting [GrandStream HT502]

First problem is 3way calling and then I hang up on the 3way to go back to the first dialed conversation it starts to break up and also there is a huge echo on the otherside of the caller.......

Second is the Answering machine voice breaks up while listening to that sexy lady telling me my options in VoiceMail :D

Third is when answering call waiting and then going back to the first line I get break ups and echooooooo

I'm not sure if it's related, but I find that while you are talking, the receiving end can't be heard, so if you both say something at the same time or overlap a little bit, you will not hear their words. It's almost like a walkie-talkie, where one has to press a button to talk, only here it's voice activated. Is this possible?

If you could PM me that MOH number that would be great - I wouldn't mind having a non-internal number to test a call or two to.

Has anyone else noticed any improvements in these audio drops in regular call situations?

Just wanted to add this is happening to me as well.
I haven't noticed any improvements recently, and in fact seems like it's been getting worse (although that may just be that I've been using the phone more in the last few weeks!).

At first I thought it was just my internet connection, until I noticed it was happening when I wasn't downloading anything, and of course getting the dropouts when checking my VM. Sometimes it's virtually impossible to understand what the person I'm speaking to is saying :?

I'm on Acanac, so using a 5meg line over copper pair.
ATA is a PAP2T.

Could those of you having this issue, please send me a PM with the following info?

ATA Model:
ATA Firmware:
Router Model:
Router Firmware:
ISP:
ISP Modem:
Router WAN port setup (DHCP or PPPoE)

We are still working hard to find a testing scenario where we can duplicate this in our lab to continue our work on finding what's causing it for those who are affected.

Perhaps you need to get outside your lab? Go in the field! Drive around in your cars, can you hear me now? hehe no but seriously, arrange a couple of conference calls among FPL employees maybe? One of you ought to stumble on the problem, we're so many here in this thread reporting that it happens to us, it's bound to happend to you guys as well!

ATA Model: Grandstream HT502 1.1B
ATA Firmware: Program-- 1.0.1.63 Bootloader-- 1.0.0.9 Core-- 1.0.0.54 Base-- 1.0.1.1
Router Model: Linksys WRT54GL
Router Firmware: Tomato/MLPPP 1.25-mp3alpha6
ISP: TekSavvy
ISP Modem: Brand new Thompson 516
Router WAN port setup (DHCP or PPPoE): DHCP with static lease

Bonus points:
- QoS is setup and working
- I got a NEW copper pair from my house to the box! (I was switched to a new pair because of crappy line quality recently)
- 5M/800k is the plan I have

Final note: I seem to experience this problem much, much less than others. In fact, in the recent weeks, I only heard it during voicemail prompts, not on an actual call.

ATA Model: PAP2T
ATA Firmware: 5.1.6(LS)
Router Model: Linksys WRT160N
Router Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/23/10) mini - build 14311
ISP: Rogers
ISP Modem: WebSTAR DPC2100R2
Router WAN port setup (DHCP or PPPoE): DHCP (cable internet)

I also purchased a Grandstream HT502 when I was under the impression that it was only a problem with the PAP's and that expierences it just as bad, if not more. The firmware on it did the auto update so is the latest available.

And a reminder to look at the summary I did in the first post of this thread.
With all the different testing I have done it makes it pretty clear to me that it is:
1) not ISP related
2) not router related
3) not ata device related

Also listen to the sample audio files in the first post.
You have to have constant talking coming from the other end otherwise you can miss the very brief sound cut out.
I almost thought it was solved this morning when I was testing at 9:03am but after 2 minutes it came back and happened about once per minute or so.

Again, you must have constant sound coming from the other end, otherwise you could easily miss it if you are only testing for a couple of minutes.
When I go into voicemail I always hit the * or 2 menu button just as she is finishing that menu talking.

Could you try creating yourself a new account to test with maybe?

But I can assure you it is a problem, I wouldn't have spent the many hours testing and documenting this information if it wasn't a big deal.

You know, perhaps you guys at FPL would enjoy a full wireshark capture of a session of a few minutes? I don't have much time on hand but if it's what it takes to get this issue moving, I'll go get my toolbox.
