configure the Voip Setting - Netgear WGR615V
did all the setup, it was very easy with Netgear, get it working with dialin and out but the problem is the download issues, the voice of the other party is chopping I have to disconnect everything from the internet to get it work, Netgear has not much settings as Dial Plan, is there a way to change the downloading stream to minimun like lower the bandwith .
I just replaced my Linksys 2100 with this netgear, Link sys was working perfect with Internet provider? any one knows how we can change the Netgear settings.

Re: configure the Voip Setting - Netgear WGR615V
If you're noticing chop it's more likely an issue with QOS, try disabling it altogether, or modifying the priorities to make VoIP High and the rest of it low. etc.
If you're able to register to make outgoing calls, then incoming *should* work, but I don't know what settings changes you made. It could be as simple as forcing a re-register of your ATA (just power-cycle it) to make it work, or it may require additional tweaking. Also make sure that you're actually not receiving the calls (straight to voice) and that it isn't an issue with the phone attached to the ATA simply not ringing (which would likely be a line-voltage issue.)
Finally, for limiting the bandwidth eaten by downloads, you're better to set the bandwidth usage limit in what ever program you're using for the downloads, (be that a torrent program, download helper, usenets etc.) directly at the computer(s) performing the downloads as router side QOS have a tendency to break VoIP probably 50% of the cases I've seen. It's a really craps shoot with QOS. Though I do know the boys at DD-WRT are trying to work on that.

Re: configure the Voip Setting - Netgear WGR615V
Disable the QOS settings on the WGR615V, for QOS is more trouble than it is worth.
Are you using the g.729 codec? Set to for 20 ms. That should have a small enough bandwidth and a big enough jitter buffer to make for consistent, good audio.
I personally do not like the default port 5060 for sip, because it it has the potential to conflict with other VOIP gear. Since freephoneline is generous in it's port flexibility, use a port like 6060 instead. Make sure the port is mapped correctly to the WGR615V to ensure consistent incoming calls. if you have no other voip gear, stay with the default port 5060.
I have these for settings. Make sure you only have one freephoneline account set up. 2 will work, but it will only ring to one line. clearpointtel and freephoneline use the same ip, so they are interchangeable.
SIP Proxy voip.clearpointel.ca

Re: configure the Voip Setting - Netgear WGR615V
Hi,
I have a Netgear WGR615V and I bought the freephoneline configuration last saturday. I only have one line and I have three problems:
1- I can not dial extension numbers
2- Incoming calls are not ok. I just received one, but after ten minutes It stopped. So incoming calls are not stable.
3- Although I change the time in my phone, it seems that it is taking an USA time. How do I change the time for Canadaian Eastern?
I really appreciate if someone who has the same ATA working good could help me about the correct configuration. I do not see where I could change DTMF configuration. My Netgear WGR615V firmware version is V1.3_31NA.
This are the current configuration that I have:
SIP Proxy voip.freephoneline.ca
SIP Control Port 5060
SIP Local Port 5060
SIP Message TOS Value: 68
Starting RTP Port 10000
RTP Data TOS Value: b8
Use Outbound SIP Proxy checked
Outbound SIP Proxy Address voip.freephoneline.ca

Prefer Fax Codec Fax - T.38

Time Server Setting: in blanc

Thanks in advance for any comments and help,

Re: configure the Voip Setting - Netgear WGR615V
1- I can not dial extension numbers
That is a netgear issue. It does weird things with the # key for it's own purposes, I guess on the plus side, you can use rotary phones on this router, an undocumented feature.
2- Incoming calls are not ok. I just received one, but after ten minutes It stopped. So incoming calls are not stable.
You have a NAT issue. You will have to forward ports to your netgear if it is not connected directly to your modem. a lot of modems have a router integrated into it, which is a problem.
3-Although I change the time in my phone, it seems that it is taking an USA time. How do I change the time for Canadaian Eastern?
That is an odd one, that one should just work . Did you set set the time server to something like time.windows.com?

Re: configure the Voip Setting - Netgear WGR615V
Hi Bridonca, thanks for your comments. Here I am going to repply in bold:
1- I can not dial extension numbers
That is a netgear issue. It does weird things with the # key for it's own purposes, I guess on the plus side, you can use rotary phones on this router, an undocumented feature.
Oh, so do you mean that I will never be able to dial extension numbers? I have a router with the ATA integrated Netgear WGR615V.
2- Incoming calls are not ok. I just received one, but after ten minutes It stopped. So incoming calls are not stable.
You have a NAT issue. You will have to forward ports to your netgear if it is not connected directly to your modem. a lot of modems have a router integrated into it, which is a problem.
Thanks, I solved the situation about incomming calls. Now, it is working!! Thanks!

No, I did not set the time server and I do not know to to set it. Do you have any idea? The thing is that I am not an expert on this. But, I confirm you that the router (which has the Ata integrated) is using a USA time

Re: configure the Voip Setting - Netgear WGR615V
There might be a way to dial extensions, but I have not figured it out with this Netgear.
time.windows.com is as good a time server as any.

Re: configure the Voip Setting - Netgear WGR615V
Hi,
I'm eagerly awaiting for a solution too. Anything that requires extensions or touch tones don't work. (Although I swear they used to).
If I were to get a different router where the touch tones work, which one would people recommend?

Re: configure the Voip Setting - Netgear WGR615V
The incoming call issue is the fault of the router, which in this case is likely the DSL modem acting like a router. If you can disable the dsl modem router, and let the WGR615V handle the PPPoE login details, I suspect your incoming call issue will go away. This is a classic NAT related issue.

Re: configure the Voip Setting - Netgear WGR615V
Thanks bridonca.
My WGR615V is handling the PPPoE login details. I made it work just by upgrade the firmware. (not sure why)
I am still waiting for someone can share how did the solve dail the extention issue.
