Pls answer, DO NOT ignore! Have to reinstall every call!!!!!

Post by flyingking »

I have 2-3 laptops, it has almost same problem. Freephoneline only works for FIRST time. Once i close the freephonline software, it will NOT work (it just seems dialing, but it does not have ringtong, and the receiver will not hear a sound and I cannot communicate to receiver.) I find if I remove/reinstall freephoneline, it will work again, but just for first use as long as I do not close the software or turn off computer. On one brand new laptop, I have to reinstall both ftp and java just to make each phone call.

I think (i not geek) it is related with conflicts with other software, probably some active plugin, e.g. ACTIVE.CGM (required for online access some canada government sites), adobe flash. ..

Pls do NOT suggest restore to earlier time. really appreciate ftp team can fix such problem. I also get other users email (they too shy to post in public), I also post below to raise your further attention!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot get softphone to dial out on my windows 7 laptop. The softphone is working on my xp laptop.
With windows 7 I have uninstalled java and softphone and then reinstalled softphone, but no success.

Have you resolved the problems that you reported on windows 7?

Guess who has a crap router? I have no idea how to fix it with a soft phone, but on a sip phone, I have to set the registration state to 120 seconds, because that is as long as the crap router will hold the IP for.

A fix would be to manually assign ports to the computer, but that is assuming the router is not so much a stinker to be able to do that. What do you have for a router? If you are on DSL, what do you have for a DSL modem?

Usually I would ask for a model number for the Belkin, but let me guess, would it be a F5D8233-4? Even if I am wrong, the best thing you can do with a Belkin router is to use it for skeet shooting. They are seriously that laughably bad. If you do get the wisdom to buy a new better router, preferably one that is DD-WRT compatible, your problems with VOIP will greatly diminish. Other activities, like torrents, would improve also. As for helping you with the hardware you got, I cannot. And it is not for the lack of trying. Get a better router.

Please do not blame the quality of the softphone from FPL.

As bridonica indicated above, your router from Belkin is definitely the one to blame. A better router out there would probably a copy of RHEL/Scientific Linux/CentOS 6 and some iptables skills. Not to be biased towards consumer internet gateways, but for most of them I've run into so far, the quality of the software and implementation just makes me want to hit it with a 2x4 until it works.

This problem seems to be eathier your router or modem usually related to a firewall blocking your sip ports...
