FPL over Rogers 3g?

Post by microsysn »

Hello everyone,

earlier in december, I was able to use free phoneline using Mediafone with some lag, but wasnt able to hear anything when receiving calls. Then I bought the 729 codec, and everything fully stopped working since around mid december. It does not register onto FPL.

Does anyone know if this is a codec, SIP APP, or Rogers 3G issue? Is anyone still able to use it with Rogers 3g?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

try another port, like 6060. Rogers has been known to block sip ports.

Thanks for your help bridonca. Just few mins ago, after turning on "rport" ON, it registers, and I can make calls, and the person can hear me very clear over rogers 3g, however, I cannot hear anything.... even if I call any number.

Now it seems like a codec issue? I tried every combination...and no luck. Any suggestions?

PS: changing port either proxy, and voip.freephoneline.ca port didn't seem to register me on the app.

Another option I can think of is to sign up for a more flexible voip carrier like www.voxalot.com, and add freephoneline as one of voxalot's providers. What is mediaphone BTW?

Ok sorry...
Now i was able to get it working with another provider's SIP settings which worked with the default settings..
Still no luck getting FPL working on SIP....
Now i noticed using it is draining the battery as it lasts around 6hrs, and usage/standby time is same...
Is this because the phone app is running as background service and it's killing the battery..
any way to overcome this? Thanks.

Probably not. When the 3G is constantly on, it is hard on the battery, and for SIP, you kind of need the 3G constantly on if you want incoming calls.

So right now i have to forward my ported # from fpl and using it with freecanadiancalls...which seems to work with default configuration (and just putting user ID/password/URL)....but FPL is still not working over Rogers 3G on the iphone. I even deleted all the setttings/configurations and started from scratch.... FCC seems to work with no problem....

It would be really great if i can get FPL working over rogers 3g on Iphone...is anyone actually doing this?

AFIAK, Roger's 3G internet is NATted, so getting it to work is quite a pain...

I use Sipdroid, csipsimple & Linphone on my Android based Captivate to my home Asterisk server (via Rogers 3G) with no problems. It isn't a pain for me as stated above. I have not tried connecting directly to FPL with it though.

I tried it with Siphon and it works great. Only problem is that the application has to be left running in order to receive a call, as a limitation of the iPhone prevents it from receiving calls in the background.

For me, it gives a push notification box when I get incoming calls on mediafone, and my phone is not jailbroken.
If you minimize ur application, you do not get incoming calls?
