Which number are you trying to call ? Don't put the whole number, just the first 6 numbers (eg 613-366-xxxx)

That message is usually when you are trying to call a non free area code.

250 numbers are not in a free calling area of BC. These are the places you should be able to call for free in BC
British Columbia
Aldergrove
Bowen Island
Cloverdale
Fort Langley
Haney
Ladner
Langley
New Westminster
Newton
North Vancouver
Pitt Meadows
Port Coquitlam
Port Moody
Richmond
Vancouver
West Vancouver
Whalley
White Rock
Whonnock
Unfortunately if you want to call 250 numbers for now you will have to buy a voucher, and the call will be considered long distance.

Somewhat (not) related...
Just looking through the list, some places in the GVRD aren't listed (like Burnaby, Surry) and I'd have thought places like Coquitlam and Victoria would have been too. :)

you can call everywhere in the GVRD including Whistler and the fraser valley. Victoria is long distance (250) area code

We're hoping to have an updated free calling city list on the website soon - this last year saw a lot of growth to our free calling area and unfortunately the website became slightly outdated in some areas.

Partially wrong, partially right.

You are currently UNABLE to call Whistler. You can call as far Northwest as West Vancouver/Bowen Island, but no further (ie: Furry Creek/Gibsons).
As far as the Valley, you can call as far east as Aldergrove. Nothing to Abbotsford, Mission or Chilliwack.

SURREY is actually a conglomeration of NEWTON, WHALLEY, CLOVERDALE, LANGLEY and FORT LANGLEY.
BURNABY is a conglomeration of VANCOUVER and COQUITLAM.

There are a few other inconsistencies such as this. If you check out www.localcallingguide.com and check out the "SWITCH" names and prefixes, you can find out this information.

One thing that would be nice, would be if the "local calling areas" that are free to FPL would be the same as the "cellular/mobile" areas associated with the various cities in which FPL does have a presence.

Just in Greater Vancouver, this would then include GIBSONS, SECHELT, ABBOTSFORD and MISSION to name a few. These are all "local" calls on a cell phone based out of Greater Vancouver used within that area. (TelusMobility also lets you get GANGES).
Hardy - Surrey, BC ~~ increasingly disgruntled FPL user ... comon, fix your stuff!
